Database Administrator / Database Engineer MSSQL L3/L4

Role Summary

We are looking for an experienced MSSQL L3/L4 Database Administrator / Database Engineer to manage and support business-critical database platforms across AWS, Azure, on-premises and hybrid environments.

The candidate must have strong hands-on expertise in Microsoft SQL Server, AWS RDS for SQL Server and Azure SQL, with advanced capabilities in performance tuning, HA/DR, troubleshooting, backup/recovery, migrations, security, automation and major incident management.

Mandatory Skills

- Strong MSSQL Server L3/L4 administration and production support expertise.
- Advanced SQL Server performance tuning and troubleshooting, including execution plans, Query Store, DMVs, wait statistics, indexing, statistics, CPU, memory and I/O bottlenecks.
- Expert troubleshooting of blocking, deadlocks, long-running queries, TempDB contention, transaction log and concurrency issues.
- Strong expertise in Always on Availability Groups, Windows Server Failover Clustering, Failover Cluster Instances and Log Shipping, including failover and synchronisation troubleshooting.
- Strong knowledge of backup/restore, point-in-time recovery, DR strategies and RPO/RTO.
- Experience with DBCC CHECKDB, database consistency/corruption troubleshooting and recovery planning.
- Solid understanding of SQL Server architecture and internals, including locking, latching,



memory management, transaction logs and query processing.
- Hands-on experience with Extended Events, Query Store and native SQL Server diagnostic tools.
- Experience with SQL Server patching, Cumulative Updates, upgrades, migrations and post-migration validation.
- Strong SQL Server security administration, including roles/permissions, least privilege, TDE, encryption and auditing.
- Mandatory hands-on experience with AWS RDS for SQL Server, including multi-AZ, backup/restore, monitoring, failover and troubleshooting.
- Mandatory experience with Azure SQL Database and/or Azure SQL Managed Instance, including administration, HA/DR, performance and migration.
- Experience troubleshooting cloud/hybrid database connectivity, authentication and network-related issues.
- Strong capacity planning and proactive health monitoring across CPU, memory, IOPS, storage and database growth.
- Ability to independently handle Sev-1/Sev-2 incidents, RCA, problem management and corrective/preventive actions.
- Experience with DBA automation using T-SQL, PowerShell, Python and/or AWS CLI.
- Ability to create SOPs/runbooks, define operational best practices and provide technical guidance to L1/L2/L3 teams.

Good to Have

- PostgreSQL and/or MySQL/MariaDB administration and troubleshooting.
- Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL/MySQL.
- Terraform / Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD automation.
- Database AIOps and intelligent monitoring.
- AWS/Azure database certifications.
- Exposure to multi-cloud database environments.
