Responsible for managing day-to-day pickling and passivation operations for stainless steel pipes and tubes, ensuring product quality, production targets, optimum chemical consumption, and compliance with safety and environmental standards. The role includes monitoring process parameters, managing chemicals and manpower, troubleshooting pickling defects, coordinating with production and quality teams, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and reduce operational costs.

Key ResponsibilitiesA. Pickling Operations & Process Management

- Manage day-to-day pickling operations for stainless steel pipes and tubes.
- Ensure effective removal of weld scale, heat tint, oxide layers, and other surface contaminants.
- Monitor and control pickling parameters, including acid concentration, bath temperature, treatment time, and chemical replenishment.
- Ensure proper execution of pickling, rinsing, neutralization, and passivation processes, wherever applicable.
- Establish and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions for pickling activities.
- Optimize process cycle time, production throughput, and material handling practices.
- Ensure proper handling and identification of different stainless steel grades, including 304, 316, 321, and other grades as applicable.

B. Chemical Management
- Monitor pickling chemical consumption and maintain optimum bath conditions.
- Ensure regular chemical analysis and monitoring of bath concentration and process parameters.
- Coordinate chemical procurement, storage, inventory control,



and replenishment with the concerned departments.
- Minimize chemical wastage and improve chemical utilization.
- Ensure proper handling, dilution, transfer, and storage of acids in accordance with approved procedures.
- Monitor pickling bath life and coordinate protected bath replacement and disposal.

C. Quality Control
- Ensure that pickled pipes meet specified surface finish, cleanliness, and customer quality requirements.
- Monitor defects such as pitting, staining, uneven pickling, over-pickling, and incomplete removal of heat tint.
- Coordinate with the Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) teams to resolve product quality issues.
- Investigate recurring defects and implement root cause analysis and corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Maintain process inspection records, chemical analysis reports, and traceability documentation.
- Support internal audits, customer audits, and product inspections as required.

D. Production Planning & Performance
- Plan and execute daily and monthly pickling production schedules in coordination with the Production Head.
- Ensure timely completion of production orders while maintaining quality standards.
- Monitor productivity, process cycle time, downtime, rejection rates, and rework.
- Coordinate with pipe manufacturing, welding, finishing, maintenance, and dispatch departments.
- Prepare daily production reports and departmental performance summaries.
- Identify bottlenecks and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
