About the role

We are seeking a Software Architect with 15-20 years of experience to lead the technical design and architecture of Platform Shared Services — the authentication, sandboxing, and licensing capabilities that underpin our product suite. In this role you will provide architectural leadership within the Auth., Sandboxing & Licensing team, shaping scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions that serve multiple product lines and industry verticals.

Key responsibilities

- Define and champion the technical architecture for Platform Shared Services, ensuring alignment with business objectives and engineering standards.
- Lead architectural decision-making and provide authoritative guidance on complex technical decisions within the team.
- Lead the design and standardisation of authentication, sandboxing, and licensing capabilities across our product suite.
- Proactively identify and evaluate emerging technologies and architectural patterns to enhance platform capabilities.
- Develop and maintain architectural principles, standards, and guidelines ensuring scalability, security, and performance.
- Design and oversee implementation of robust APIs and system interfaces enabling seamless integration between platform components.
- Collaborate with Product Management to translate business strategy into technical roadmaps.
- Partner with the Global Information Security Officer to establish and maintain security architecture standards.
- Work closely with DevOps and SRE teams to implement cloud-friendly architectural patterns and ensure operational excellence.
- Mentor and develop technical teams, fostering a culture of engineering excellence and innovation.




- Define architectural constraint documents that govern how AI code generation is applied within Platform Shared Services, ensuring AI-generated code meets security, performance, and design requirements.
- Establish team-level PRP standards and prompt templates, ensuring consistent, high-quality AI-generated output aligned with platform architecture.
- Evaluate and recommend AI-assisted development tooling for adoption across the team, defining governance policies for responsible use.
- Establish and maintain comprehensive architectural documentation and technical specifications.
- Participate in an on-call rotation.

Mandatory AI Engineering Competencies

Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work effectively in an AI-First Software Development Lifecycle.

- Proficient in AI-assisted software development using modern coding assistants to accelerate design, implementation, testing and documentation.
- Ability to translate business requirements into structured specifications prior to implementation (Spec-Driven Development).
- Strong prompt engineering skills for software engineering tasks including code generation, test generation, debugging, documentation and architecture.
- Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated outputs for correctness, security, performance and maintainability.
- Experience using AI to generate and maintain automated unit, API and integration tests.




- Demonstrated ability to work with AI agents while retaining full engineering ownership and accountability.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

You must have all of the following:

- Significant professional experience building robust, scalable web applications using Python, JavaScript, and PostgreSQL or similar technologies.
- Significant experience designing and developing REST APIs.
- Significant experience creating and running automated tests.
- Experience working in a containerised environment (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with Linux system architecture/administration and supporting network architecture.
- Experience working in cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to present technical concepts to architects and developers.
- Experience guiding and mentoring software engineers.
- Fluent written and spoken English.

Desired Qualifications & Experience

Ideally, you'll have some of the following:

- Experience with Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) or web mapping.
- Experience within the telecommunications and/or utilities industries.
- Knowledge of Node.js design and development.
- Experience with mobile application development (iOS, Android, Windows).
- Knowledge of or experience with: OpenLayers, PostGIS, Pyramid, Shapely, Turf, and SQLAlchemy.
- Experience with security architecture, including authentication standards (OAuth 2.0, SAML, OpenID Connect).
- Experience with licensing and entitlement management systems.
- Experience working in an Agile setting.

Education

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent industry experience.
