OctavoLab is looking for an experienced QA Engineer II / Automation Engineer with 3–5 years of overall testing experience and at least 2 years of hands-on automation experience.
The candidate will be responsible for building and maintaining automation frameworks, developing UI and API test cases, managing regression testing, and ensuring the quality of web applications.
The role primarily focuses on two healthcare platforms, along with other client projects involving logistics, e-commerce, and payment integrations.
Role Description:
Key responsibilities
Test strategy and coverage
- Map the critical user journeys for each product and decide what to automate first, based on risk.
- Write test plans and test cases from requirements and designs before development finishes, not after.
- Test permission boundaries for every role: each user sees and changes only what they should. In regulated products this is a core test, not an edge case.
- Verify audit logging, consent records and data visibility rules as part of every release.
- Balance automated testing with manual exploratory testing, and know when each is the right tool.
Automation
- Build and maintain Playwright end-to-end tests for web journeys in React and Vue applications.
- Build API tests for Django REST Framework, FastAPI and Node.js services using pytest, Postman or similar tools.
- Write tests that are stable, readable and fast. Fix flaky tests instead of retrying them.
- Run suites in GitHub Actions on every pull request and before each release, with transparent pass and fail reports.
- Help developers add unit and integration tests where they give the most value.
Environments, data and releases
- Keep test environments consistent with production configuration, working with the DevOps and Cloud Engineer.
- Create and manage synthetic test data. Real customer or patient data never enters a test environment.
- Run regression and smoke tests for each release and publish a short release test report.
- Test third-party integrations using sandboxes and mocks, including failure, timeout and retry cases.
Defects and collaboration
- Write defect reports a developer can act on without a follow-up question: steps, expected and actual result, environment and evidence such as screenshots, logs and API responses.
- Triage and prioritise defects with the Technical Lead.
- Join requirement and design discussions early to raise testability questions and edge cases.
- Track and share quality measures: escaped defects, flaky tests and coverage of critical journeys.
Required experience and skills
- 3 to 5 years in software testing, with at least 2 years writing automated tests.
- Hands-on web UI automation with Playwright, Cypress or Selenium.
- API testing with Postman, pytest, REST Assured or similar, including authentication and negative cases.
- Working knowledge of TypeScript, JavaScript or Python for writing tests.
- Experience running tests in a CI/CD pipeline such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or Jenkins.
- Strong test design: boundary values, equivalence classes, state transitions and role and permission matrices.
- Basic SQL to check data in PostgreSQL or a similar database.
- Clear written English for test plans and defect reports.
