An Operation Theatre (OT) Technician (or Technologist) is a vital member of the medical surgical team. They manage the operating room and support doctors and nurses across all phases of surgery

Pre-Operative Duties (Before Surgery)

- Sanitize and Prepare the Room: Fumigate, clean, and disinfect the operating theatre to maintain a sterile environment.
- Setup Equipment: Check, calibrate, and arrange surgical instruments, anesthesia machines, lighting, monitors, and suction units.
- Sterilize Tools: Ensure all tools and drapes follow strict aseptic and biohazard protocols to prevent infections.
- Patient Preparation: Help transport, position, and prep the patient on the operating table

Intra-Operative Duties (During Surgery)
- Assist the Surgical Team: Pass sterile instruments, supplies, and tools directly to surgeons and scrub nurses.
- Operate Medical Devices: Monitor and manage equipment like suction machines, monitors, and lights during the procedure.
- Support Anesthesia: Assist the anesthesiologist by tracking patient vitals and handling relevant devices.

Post-Operative Duties (After Surgery)
- Patient Recovery: Safely transfer the patient from the operating table to the recovery room.




- Clean and Restock: Disinfect and sterilize used instruments, safely dispose of biomedical waste, and restock the room for the next procedure.
- Maintain Records: Keep logs of sterilization cycles, equipment usage, and surgical inventory

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain operation theatre
- Maintain equipment support in an acute care environment
- Identify and move to maintain a sterile field
- Follow infection control policies and procedures
- Manage and maintain theatre equipment
- Prepare patient for operative procedures
- Provide intra-operative equipment and technical support
- Assist anaesthetist in handling emergencies outside of OT Room
- Manage hazardous waste
- Ensure availability of medical and diagnostic supplies
- Work effectively with others
- Manage work to meet requirements
- Maintain a safe, healthy, and secure working Workplace
- Follow radiation safety guidelines
- Follow biomedical waste disposal protocols
- Monitor and assure quality.
