About The Role
Neev Labs is looking for a Backend Software Engineer who can work effectively with existing software projects and open-source repositories. The role focuses on understanding established codebases, investigating bugs, implementing modifications, and extending existing functionality. The ideal candidate should be comfortable navigating unfamiliar projects, tracing how different components interact, troubleshooting technical issues, and following structured software development practices. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently are essential. This is a flexible, part-time opportunity for software engineers who want to contribute their technical expertise to real-world engineering projects remotely.

Key Responsibilities
• Explore and understand existing software repositories, code structures, dependencies, and implementation logic.
• Read, analyse, modify, debug, and extend existing codebases across supported programming languages.
• Work with open-source projects to implement changes, fix bugs, and improve existing functionality.
• Investigate software issues by tracing execution paths, identifying root causes, and developing appropriate solutions.
• Understand how different modules and components interact within an existing system.
• Implement code changes while maintaining readability, reliability, and consistency with established coding practices.
• Use Git/GitHub for version control, including branching, commits, pull requests,



and code reviews.
• Respond to review comments, incorporate feedback, and collaborate effectively through established development workflows.
• Use Jira or similar project management tools to track tasks, bugs, development progress, and issue resolution.
• Communicate technical findings and provide updates on assigned tasks and implementation progress. Required Qualifications
• 1+ year of professional software engineering experience in any programming language, including Java, Python, C++, Go, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
• Hands-on experience working with existing software codebases and open-source projects.
• Ability to understand, modify, debug, troubleshoot, and extend existing implementations.
• Familiarity with Git/GitHub workflows, including branching, commits, pull requests, code reviews, and resolving review comments.
• Experience using Jira or similar project/task management tools to manage development work.
• Ability to navigate unfamiliar repositories and identify relevant files, dependencies, and implementation paths.
• Strong debugging, analytical reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
