About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Cost Estimation Intern to support our team in preparing accurate project cost estimates, analyzing financial and technical data, and maintaining cost records. The ideal candidate has exceptionally strong mathematical ability, enjoys working with numbers, and can perform calculations quickly and accurately. Typical estimating-intern responsibilities include quantity takeoffs, unit pricing, cost comparisons, and preparation of detailed cost reports under supervision.

Key Responsibilities

- Assist in preparing cost estimates for materials, equipment, overheads, and other project expenses.
- Perform quantity takeoffs, unit-rate calculations, cost comparisons, and variance analysis.
- Collect, organize, and validate pricing data from vendors, suppliers, historical records, and project documents.
- Review drawings, bills of quantities, specifications, quotations, and project requirements to identify cost components.
- Build and maintain Excel-based cost sheets, estimate trackers, and pricing databases.
- Compare estimated versus actual costs and flag discrepancies, risks, or potential savings.
- Support preparation of quotations, budgets, tender documents, and cost reports.
- Coordinate with procurement, engineering, operations, and finance teams to gather required inputs.
- Conduct market research for material rates, vendor quotations, and cost benchmarks.
- Ensure all calculations, assumptions, and supporting documents are accurate, clearly documented, and audit-ready.

Required Skills





- Very strong mathematical and numerical skills, including percentages, ratios, proportions, unit conversions, area/volume calculations, discounts, interest, and basic algebra/geometry.
- Excellent speed and accuracy in manual calculations and spreadsheet-based calculations.
- Strong analytical, logical reasoning, and problem-solving ability.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, lookup functions, pivot tables, charts, and data validation.
- High attention to detail and ability to spot calculation or data errors.
- Valuable written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain organized records.
- Basic understanding of cost estimation concepts such as direct cost, indirect cost, overheads, contingency, markup, and cost variance.

Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with cost-estimation tools, ERP systems, procurement software, or project-management tools is a plus.
- Prior internship, project work, or coursework involving budgeting, costing, estimation, procurement, or financial analysis is advantageous.
