Position Overview We are looking for an experienced Mainframe Developer to join the MF DevEx DFQT squad within the ISPL ITG Fortis ADM department. Based in Chennai, you will work in an agile team that drives the DevEx tribe’s mission to improve software development practices across the bank. Your role will blend technical expertise on z/OS, OpenAPI and mainframe tooling with coaching and best‑practice guidance for development squads. Job Responsibilities
• Provide day‑to‑day technical support to developers and analysts working on mainframe applications.
• Advise on quality, performance and governance of z/OS Connect services and OpenAPI specifications.
• Define and propagate best‑practice standards for the squad’s development processes.
• Coordinate changes across infrastructure components and environments, collaborating with mainframe specialists to enhance tools and frameworks.
• Contribute to infrastructure projects, proof‑of‑concepts and customisations of current products.
• Mentor team members and promote continuous improvement aligned with agile values. Required Education, Skills, AND Experience (MUST‑HAVE)
• Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent skilled experience.
• 5–8 years of hands‑on experience with mainframe technologies, including Z/OS Explorer (GUI for Z/OS Connect), Cobol, IMS (DC DB), DB2, JCL, App Master Builder and DFSORT.
• Strong knowledge of OpenAPI specification and API governance.




• Proficiency with mainframe development tools such as Endevor and Enterprise Development for Eclipse (EDZ).
• Extensive experience in the technical management of online and batch applications and a solid understanding of mainframe architecture (hardware, OS, networking, databases, middleware).
• Proven ability to integrate mainframe and distributed systems using various technologies and infrastructure components.
• Excellent analytical abilities, effective communication skills and a collaborative, team‑spirit mindset. Preferred Education, Skills, AND Experience (NICE‑TO‑HAVE)
• Open‑DevOps mindset with an interest in modern frameworks that enhance the mainframe developer experience.
• Familiarity with IBM File Manager, Fault Analyzer, debugger and related utilities.
• Experience with Office 365, Java or .
NET development.
• Skills in capacity and performance monitoring/optimisation of application components (routines, programs, schedules).
• Exposure to GitLab, Dynatrace dashboards and analysis, and VS Code with mainframe plugins.
