1. Job Purpose

The Supervisor-cum-Fabricator leads daily shift operations and executes structural fabrication, equipment modification, and mechanical repairs in a Petcoke Briquette manufacturing plant. The role ensures continuous plant throughput while keeping downtime low through active hands-on repair of high-wear components (chutes, hoppers, mixers, and roller press feeds).

2. Key Responsibilities

Supervisory &

- Team Management:

- Lead and assign daily shift targets to press operators, fitters, welders, and helpers.

- Oversee raw material feeding, binder mixing, briquette pressing, and drying operations during shift hours.

- Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols (PPE, dust masks, Hot Work permits, Lockout/Tagout - LOTO).

- Maintain shift reports, logbooks, downtime tracking, and material consumption records.

Fabrication &

- Mechanical Maintenance:

- Read and interpret fabrication drawings, layout sketches, and structural design blueprints.

- Perform cutting (gas/plasma), grinding, tacking, and welding (ARC/MIG) for structural steel, piping, and plant machinery.

- Execute active fabrication, wear-lining, and repair work on petcoke plant equipment, including:

- Briquetting Press &
- Feeder Chutes:
Fabricate, line, and modify feed hoppers, scrapers, and distribution chutes.

- Mixers &

- Pug Mills:

Replace wear plates, fabricate mixer paddles/blades, and repair binder dosing lines.

- Crushers, Pulverizers &

- Screeners:

Fabricate wear liners, screen frames, and discharge chutes.

- Drying &

- Handling Systems:





Fabricate and align belt conveyor frames, bucket elevator casings, air ducting, and dryer transfer points.

- Perform structural modifications to reduce petcoke dust spillage and material jamming.

Process &

- Quality Support:

- Monitor green briquette quality (drop strength) and dry/cured crush strength.

- Assist in controlling moisture levels, binder-to-petcoke dosing ratios, and roller press pressure.

- Ensure minimal raw material and binder wastage during shift operations.

Required Qualifications &

- Experience

- Educational Qualification:

- ITI or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering / Fitter / Fabrication Trade.

- Experience:

- 8 to 10 years of hands-on structural fabrication and mechanical maintenance experience in heavy industrial plants (Petcoke/Coal Briquetting, Mineral Processing, Cement, or Agglomeration plants).

- Minimum 3–4 years in a team-leading or supervisory capacity.

- Fabrication Skills: Cutting, arc welding, plate rolling/bending, fitting, structural layout work, and chute fabrication.

- Petcoke Equipment Awareness: Hands-on experience with roller presses, hydraulic power packs, pulverizers, continuous mixers, and thermal dryers.

- Wear &
- Corrosion Protection:

Experience installing wear plates (e.g., Hardox/HARDFACED liners) to handle abrasive petcoke fines.

- Safety &

- HSE Compliance:

Expertise in carbon dust control, fire safety around dry petcoke, and hot work clearance procedures.
