SQL Server Developer – Transactional (OLTP) Databases, Healthcare SaaS

Experience: 4–6 years

Location: Pune (Hybrid - three days TTW from office)

Work Hours: General shift initially; US-hours shift (6:00 PM–03:00 AM IST) after 3 months

Environment: Microsoft SQL Server, live transactional healthcare SaaS

Notice Period: Earlier joining preferred

Role Overview

We are hiring a solid T-SQL developer for our healthcare SaaS platform. In the first phase you will write, refactor and maintain database logic for critical business workflows. Over the first 6–12 months, with structured mentoring, you will grow into production troubleshooting and performance tuning, and from there into production SQL support.

This is not a BI/ETL/DW role and not an SSIS package-development role.

Key Responsibilities

SQL Development (primary focus)

- Write, debug and maintain T-SQL stored procedures, functions and views for critical business workflows.
- Deliver new database logic and enhancements with the engineering team.
- Refactor existing procedures for better performance and maintainability.
- Test database changes and release them through the team’s change process.
- Perform controlled, documented production data fixes.
- Investigate slow procedures using execution plans, with guidance from senior engineers.

Growth Path: Performance Tuning & Production Support (from about month 6, with mentoring)

- Shadow, then handle, live production issues (blocking, deadlocks, high CPU, slow queries) as US-hours support is phased in.

- Use Query Store to find top resource-consuming queries, detect plan regressions and force plans.
- Use DMVs to analyze waits, blocking, query stats, index usage and memory/CPU pressure. Examples: sys.dm_exec_requests, sys.dm_os_wait_stats, sys.dm_exec_query_stats.
- Read execution plans, fix parameter sniffing, and improve indexing and statistics.
- Document root causes and prevention steps for each incident.

Requirements

- 4–6 years of hands-on T-SQL experience on transactional (OLTP) application databases.
- Strong T-SQL skills: stored procedures, transactions, error handling, CTEs, temp tables and window functions; set-based logic in preference to cursors. You must be able to write new logic, not just review it.
- Solid indexing fundamentals (clustered, non-clustered, covering indexes) and the ability to read a basic execution plan (scan vs seek, key lookup).
- Has optimized at least one slow query or procedure and can explain what they found and what they changed.
- Working understanding of transactions and locking basics (isolation levels, blocking).
- Clear written and spoken English.
- Eagerness to learn production troubleshooting and willingness to move to US-hours support after the ramp-up period.

Preferred

- Hands-on Query Store or DMV experience.
- sp_WhoIsActive / Extended Events.
- AWS RDS for SQL Server.
- ADO.NET application stacks.
- Healthcare or SaaS domain.
- Database source control (Git, DACPAC).
