Who Are We

HaystackAnalytics is a HealthTech company creating clinical genomics products, which enable diagnostic labs and hospitals to offer accurate and personalized diagnostics. Supported by India's most respected science agencies (DST, BIRAC, DBT), we created and launched a portfolio of products to offer genomics in infectious diseases. Our genomics based diagnostic solution for Tuberculosis was recognized as one of top innovations supported by BIRAC in the past 10 years, and was launched by the Prime Minister of India in the BIRAC Showcase event in Delhi, 2022.

Position Overview The Scientist 1 will lead research and development initiatives focused on developing, optimising, and validating NGS-based molecular diagnostic assays for pathogen detection and antimicrobial resistance profiling. The role will involve both wet-lab research and dry-lab bioinformatics, including metagenomics, microbial genomics, and human genomics data analysis. The incumbent will drive scientific innovation, independently manage research projects, guide technical teams, and ensure the development of reliable, clinically relevant genomic diagnostic solutions.

The role will also involve scientific communication, technical training, and staying abreast of advancements in sequencing technologies and molecular diagnostics.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the development and optimisation of NGS-based molecular assays for pathogen detection and antimicrobial resistance profiling using long-read sequencing platforms.
- Develop and optimise nucleic acid extraction protocols from microbial cultures, clinical samples, and sterile body fluids.
- Design and execute in-vitro experiments, assay development, and analytical validation studies.
- Oversee sample preparation, library preparation, sequencing, and operation of advanced laboratory instruments.
- Develop and optimise bioinformatics pipelines for NGS data analysis, covering metagenomics, microbial genomics, and human genomics.
- Perform genomic data analysis, including pathogen identification, antimicrobial resistance profiling, variant calling, annotation, and interpretation.
- Integrate wet-lab and dry-lab workflows to improve genomic analysis and diagnostic assay performance.
- Lead R&D; projects, define research objectives, monitor progress, and drive scientific innovation.
- Manage, mentor, and train research scientists and technical personnel in molecular biology, NGS, and bioinformatics.
- Maintain experimental records, validation protocols, quality control documents, and technical reports.
- Communicate research findings through scientific presentations, publications, and reports.

- Conduct NGS training workshops for technical staff, clients, and students.
- Monitor advancements in sequencing technologies, molecular diagnostics, and bioinformatics.
- Manage research budgets, laboratory inventory, procurement, and utilisation of resources.

Qualifications

- PhD in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Genomics, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, or a related discipline.
- 0-2 years of relevant experience in molecular diagnostics, NGS-based research, genomics, or R&D.;
- Solid hands-on experience in molecular biology techniques, assay development, and sequencing technologies.
- Experience with long-read sequencing platforms such as Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) or PacBio. Experience with short-read sequencing technologies like Illumina or MGI platforms is an added advantage.

- Expertise in metagenomics, microbial genomics, and antimicrobial resistance analysis.
- Desirable to have knowledge of human genomics, including variant analysis, annotation, and interpretation.
- Experience in developing and optimising bioinformatics pipelines for NGS data analysis.
- Proficiency in Python, R, and/or Bash, along with Linux-based computational environments.
- Knowledge of bioinformatics tools, genomic databases, sequence alignment, genome assembly, and variant calling.
