Job Title: Hardware Design Engineer – Smart Metering
Our client is seeking a Hardware Design Engineer to support the development of next-generation metering products for energy, water, and gas segments. In this role, you’ll own the end-to-end PCB design lifecycle—from concept through production release—delivering reliable, cost-effective, and compliant hardware for high-volume smart meters.
Experience: 6–9 years
Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end PCB design and layout for smart metering products, from concept definition through production release.
- Perform schematic capture, component selection, and signal/power integrity analysis using industry-standard EDA tools.
- Develop and maintain PCB layouts in compliance with DFM/DFT guidelines and manufacturing constraints.
- Conduct hardware bring-up, functional testing, and validation—including debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers.
- Collaborate with firmware, mechanical, and validation teams to ensure seamless integration of hardware and software components.
- Support product certification efforts for EMI/EMC, safety, and regional regulatory compliance (e.g., CE, FCC, UL).
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and root-cause analysis of field failures and lab anomalies.
- Prepare and maintain documentation including BOMs, assembly drawings, test plans, and manufacturing databases.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical,
Communications Engineering, or a related field.
- 6–9 years of hands-on experience designing hardware for electricity meters and related metering/IoT devices—including schematic capture, PCB layout, prototyping, bring-up, and validation.
- Proven track record in hardware bring-up, debugging (using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers), and root-cause analysis of lab and field failures.
- Robust grasp of EMI/EMC, RF module integration, and communication technologies including GSM, NB-IoT, and 4G.
- Practical experience applying DFM/DFT principles and preparing manufacturing databases.
- Familiarity with compliance, safety, and quality standards in high-volume electronics manufacturing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with microcontroller selection and integration based on performance, power, and cost requirements.
- Knowledge of low-power design techniques and battery-powered system architecture.
- Experience with embedded firmware development or close collaboration with firmware teams.
- Familiarity with CAD tools such as Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, or KiCad.
- Experience working in agile or iterative product development environments.
