Organization Overview

Nirmit Bharat is a newly introduced subsidiary of the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), set up to foster inclusive digital commerce across India. Its flagship initiative is DigiHaat, a buyer app built to make digital commerce accessible to small businesses, artisans, farmers, and local experience providers. DigiHaat is currently in alpha testing and aims to do for commerce what the BHIM app did for payments: make it simple, open, and available to everyone.

The Mobility, Transit & Tourism vertical is a key prospect within this mission. It seamlessly connects daily transit, regional intercity mobility, homestays, local guides, heritage and craft experiences, rural and community-based tourism, and regional travel services onto an open network.

Role Overview

We are looking for Engineering Manager with 8–11 years of experience to lead the design and development of reliable, secure, scalable backend systems for DigiHaat. This role calls for strong hands-on engineering depth, sound architectural judgment, and the ability to guide technical decisions across services and teams. You will own critical backend components end to end - from system design and implementation to deployment, observability, performance, and production support - while partnering closely with Product, Frontend, QA, DevOps, and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

· Own the architecture, design, development, and evolution of scalable backend services, APIs, and data-intensive systems.

· Build and optimize production-grade services using Java, Node.js, and/or Go,



with relevant frameworks such as Spring Boot and Express.js.

· Design service boundaries, API contracts, data flows, and integration patterns for distributed and microservices-based systems.

· Drive performance, scalability, availability, and resilience through profiling, capacity planning, caching, asynchronous processing, and fault-tolerant design.

· Design, review, and optimize relational and NoSQL data models, queries, indexing, transactions, and data access patterns.

· Apply caching and search technologies such as Redis, Memcached, Elasticsearch, and/or Solr where appropriate to improve response times and discovery.

· Lead technical design reviews and code reviews; establish engineering standards for code quality, maintainability, testing, security, and documentation.

· Own production readiness and reliability, including monitoring, logging, alerting, incident investigation, root-cause analysis, and preventive improvements.

· Work with cloud-native infrastructure and deployment practices, with exposure to GCP, Kubernetes, CI/CD, Prometheus, and Grafana.

· Collaborate with Product and cross-functional stakeholders to translate business requirements into pragmatic technical solutions and delivery plans.

· Mentor engineers,



unblock complex technical issues, and raise the overall quality and consistency of engineering execution.

· Identify technical debt and architectural risks, prioritize remediation, and balance near-term delivery with long-term platform health.

Qualifications and Experience

· 8–11 years of hands-on experience in backend development using Java, Node.js, or Go.

· Strong expertise in system design, microservices architecture, REST APIs, and distributed systems.

· Proven experience building scalable applications using Spring Boot and/or Express.js.

· Proficiency in relational/NoSQL databases, caching, and search technologies such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, and Elasticsearch.

· Experience with cloud platforms, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and production monitoring tools

· Demonstrated ability to own complex backend systems end to end, optimize performance, troubleshoot production issues, and drive technical decisions.
