Howrah

We are hiring: Commercial Market Builder — B2B Kidswear

Operating base: Regent International Haat, Ankurhati, Howrah, West Bengal

Work arrangement: Full-time, field-based across Kolkata and Howrah, with scheduled days at Ankurhati

Experience: Typically 5–10 years

Compensation: ₹55,000–₹1,10,000 fixed per month, depending on demonstrated ability, plus performance-linked variable pay

We are building a new B2B children’s-wear business for independent retailers.

The business will not begin as another conventional consumer brand, marketplace or large factory.

It will begin by helping children’s-wear retailers reduce inventory and sourcing risk through:

- smaller opening quantities;
- carefully constructed product capsules;
- reliable quality;
- faster replenishment;
- better size availability;
- and more disciplined supplier coordination.

We are looking for the person who can build this commercial channel from zero.

This is not a routine sales position.

There is no mature distributor network to inherit, no established sales team to manage and no large existing account book to maintain.

The person joining us must be able to :

- enter an unstructured market,
- understand how retailers actually buy,
- convert evidence into a commercial offer,
- secure paid pilot orders and build repeat accounts.

Location and working pattern The operating base is at Regent International Haat, Ankurhati, Howrah.

This is a field-led commercial role. The successful candidate will spend substantial time visiting retailers and relevant markets across Kolkata, Howrah and, later, selected Eastern Indian cities.

The role will generally involve:

- one or two scheduled working days at Ankurhati for product, sample, production and strategy reviews;
- three or four days of retailer meetings, market visits and account development;
- structured remote reporting where appropriate;
- and periodic supplier or institutional visits.

This is NOT a desk-based factory-attendance role. However, regular presence at Ankurhati is essential because the person must understand the products, samples, quality standards, lead times and production constraints before making promises to customers.

Candidates should assess the commute realistically before applying.

Preference may be given to candidates who:

- live within a practical commuting distance of Ankurhati;
- can travel efficiently from Howrah, Santragachi, western Kolkata or nearby areas;
- or are willing to relocate closer to the operating base.

Transport support or a structured travel arrangement may be considered for an exceptional candidate.

What you will be expected to build

During the first 90 days, you will be expected to:

- identify and qualify independent children’s-wear retailers in Kolkata and Howrah;
- conduct evidence-based retailer discovery meetings;
- understand existing suppliers, purchase values, margins, stock ageing, size gaps and replenishment failures;
- identify retailers suitable for a paid pilot;

- present controlled product capsules and commercial terms;
- negotiate without relying on excessive discounting or unsecured credit;
- secure 10–15 paid pilot accounts;
- collect advances or deposits;
- build a disciplined commercial pipeline;
- maintain clear account notes and follow-up records;
- gather store-level information that can improve product, pricing and replenishment decisions;
- support repeat ordering;
- and create the first repeatable account-acquisition process for the company.

Your role after the pilot

If the model is validated, you will help build the commercial system across Kolkata and subsequently selected Eastern Indian cities.

Your responsibilities may expand to:

- building and managing a regional retailer network;
- developing account segmentation;
- creating territory plans;
- training account executives;
- improving repeat-order frequency;
- protecting collections and contribution margins;
- developing private-label and institutional opportunities;
- and translating retailer evidence into strategic commercial decisions.

What we are looking for

You may come from

- children’s wear;
- apparel or textile distribution;
- multi-brand retail;
- school uniforms or institutional supply;
- FMCG general trade;
- beauty or eyewear distribution;
- B2B commerce;
- private-label supply;
- or another business where fragmented retailers had to be acquired and developed.

Your industry background matters less than your evidence of having personally built something.

You should be able to demonstrate that you have:

- opened a territory, channel or account base from zero;
- personally acquired paying B2B customers;
- converted first orders into repeat business;
- negotiated commercial terms;
- handled collections or credit risk;
- worked in the field rather than only from an office;
- created a process where none existed;
- protected margin instead of chasing revenue at any cost;
- and reported bad news honestly and early.

You must understand the difference between

- a meeting and a qualified opportunity;
- verbal interest and a paid pilot;
- invoiced revenue and collected revenue;
- gross margin and contribution margin;
- a contact list and a commercial channel;
- and one-time buying and repeatable demand.

This role may NOT suit you if:

- your main strength is maintaining inherited key accounts;
- you require a large brand name to obtain meetings;
- you expect marketing leads to be handed to you;
- you rely mainly on discounts, credit or schemes to close business;
- you describe your retailer contacts as your principal qualification;

- you have managed salespeople but have not personally built a channel;
- you are uncomfortable visiting neighbourhood retailers;
- you avoid maintaining structured account information;
- you want a fully office-based role;
- you are unwilling to travel regularly to Ankurhati;
- or you consider data collection beneath a senior sales role.

How performance will be measured

Performance will be assessed through:

- evidence-grade retailer meetings;
- paid pilot accounts;
- advances and collections;
- collected gross contribution;
- repeat orders;
- full-price account retention;
- payment discipline;
- discount discipline;
- account concentration;
- and the quality of commercial information gathered.

Commission will not be paid merely on invoiced revenue.

Variable compensation will be linked primarily to:

- collected contribution;
- qualified new accounts;
- repeat orders;
- and account quality.

Orders involving unauthorised discounts, overdue receivables, avoidable returns or poor-credit customers will not qualify for full incentives.

Working conditions

- Full-time;
- field-based across Kolkata and Howrah;
- scheduled presence at Regent International Haat, Ankurhati;
- substantial retailer travel;
- structured weekly commercial and product reviews;
- disciplined reporting of account activity;
- six-month probation;
- approved travel and business expenses reimbursed separately;
- authority over commercial execution within defined pricing, discount and credit limits.

Hiring process The selection process will include:

- A structured experience interview
- A practical commercial case
- A paid, time-bounded work sample
- A site visit to Regent International Haat, Ankurhati
- Reference checks with former managers, colleagues, customers or distributors The site visit is important. Finalists will be expected to assess the commute and working environment before accepting an offer.

The PAID work sample may require you to:

- identify 25 relevant retailers;
- prioritise ten;
- prepare a retailer-discovery approach;
- conduct selected real or simulated discovery conversations;
- construct a commercial offer;
- respond to buyer objections;
- evaluate basic credit risk;
- and present a 30-day market-entry plan.

The assessment will be paid. It will not be used as unpaid commercial labour.

How to apply

Please send

- your current CV;
- your current and expected fixed compensation;
- your notice period;
- your present residential location;
- how you would travel to Ankurhati;
- the territories or channels you have personally built;
- the number of accounts you personally opened;
- one example of a customer or prospect you refused and why;
- and a brief explanation of what existed when you started your most key commercial assignment and what existed when you left.

Applications that only state “strong retailer network” or “excellent industry contacts” without measurable evidence may not be shortlisted.
