Hirely is recruiting on behalf of Mercor for a remote Physics PhD / Computational Physics Expert opportunity supporting AI research and scientific computing.
What You’ll Do:
- Create original, challenging scientific computing problems designed to evaluate advanced AI models.
- Develop executable research tasks based on published papers, datasets, open-source projects, or original research scenarios.
- Write detailed prompts and define clear grading criteria and reference solutions .
- Test and calibrate tasks against advanced AI models to ensure they meaningfully evaluate scientific reasoning and coding ability.
- Work across physics domains such as computational physics, condensed matter, optics, quantum information/computing, astrophysics, and particle physics .
- Use scientific programming and reproducible workflows to develop and validate evaluation tasks.
Who We’re Looking For:
- PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, or a closely related field
- Demonstrated expertise in at least two physics subdomains
- Strong scientific computing and programming skills in Python, R, or another relevant language
- Experience working with research code,
simulations, datasets, or scientific software
- Comfortable with Git/GitHub and Docker
- Solid research, analytical, and technical writing skills
- Peer-reviewed publications and scientific software experience are a plus
Compensation & Commitment:
- $70/hour
- Fully remote
- Independent contractor
- 20+ hours per week
