Database Engineer – SQL / Workflow Database

Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Database Engineer to design, maintain, and optimize SQL databases supporting workflow management, application state, review processes, and audit data.

The role involves database design, performance optimization, security, backup and recovery, and database change management. You will work closely with software engineering and application teams to ensure the database layer remains reliable, scalable, and performant.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and maintain database schemas for workflow, session, application state, and audit-related data.
- Develop and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and database objects.
- Implement appropriate indexing and database performance optimization strategies.
- Monitor database performance, capacity, availability, and reliability.
- Support database backup, recovery, and retention processes.
- Implement and maintain database access controls and role-based permissions.
- Configure and maintain secure database connections.
- Support database migrations, schema changes, and version management during application releases.
- Troubleshoot database performance and availability issues.
- Collaborate with software engineers and application teams on database-related requirements.
- Support production deployments, maintenance activities, and release cycles.
- Contribute to database standards, documentation, and operational procedures.

Required Skills

- 8–12 years of experience in database engineering, database administration, or a similar role.




- Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and/or Microsoft SQL Server.
- Strong SQL development and query optimization skills.
- Experience with database schema design and data modeling.
- Experience with indexing, execution plans, and database performance tuning.
- Knowledge of stored procedures, functions, and database development practices.
- Experience with database backup and recovery strategies.
- Understanding of Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR) and disaster recovery concepts.
- Experience implementing Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and database security practices.
- Experience supporting database migrations and production releases.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills

- Experience supporting databases for enterprise applications or workflow-based systems.
- Familiarity with database monitoring and performance analysis tools.
- Experience working with CI/CD and automated database deployment processes.
- Knowledge of high-availability and disaster-recovery approaches.
- Experience working in Agile software development environments.
- Familiarity with cloud-based database platforms is a plus.

Education Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field is preferred.

Work Environment

This role involves close collaboration with software engineering, application development, QA, DevOps, and other technical teams to maintain a reliable and scalable database environment.
