1. Quality Leadership
- Lead the overall Quality function for power transformer manufacturing, covering incoming material, in-process, final inspection and testing.
- Establish and drive quality objectives, KPIs, systems and improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations.
- Develop and maintain a strong quality culture with a focus on defect prevention and continuous improvement.
- Transformer Manufacturing Quality
- Ensure quality compliance throughout the complete manufacturing process of power transformers.
- Monitor critical processes including core assembly, winding, insulation, lead connections, tank fabrication, active-part assembly, oil processing, bushing installation and final assembly.
- Establish and monitor critical quality parameters and process controls.
- Testing & Inspection
- Oversee routine, type and special testing requirements for power transformers.
- Ensure readiness and compliance for FAT, customer inspections and third-party inspections.
- Coordinate with the Testing and Engineering teams for resolution of technical and quality issues.
- Quality Standards & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable IEC, IS, IEEE, BIS, ISO and customer-specific standards/specifications.
- Implement and continuously improve the Quality Management System (QMS).
- Ensure effective implementation of inspection plans, quality procedures, work instructions and control plans.
- Failure Analysis & Problem Solving
- Lead investigation of internal and external quality failures, transformer defects and customer complaints.
- Conduct RCA, 8D, CAPA and corrective/preventive action processes.
- Identify recurring defects and implement permanent corrective actions.
- Supplier & Incoming Quality
- Lead supplier quality management for critical transformer materials and components.
- Monitor incoming quality of materials such as CRGO, copper/aluminium conductors, insulation materials,
bushings, OLTCs, transformer oil, tanks and other bought-out components.
- Conduct supplier audits and support supplier development and improvement programs.
- Customer & Inspection Management
- Handle customer quality requirements, inspections, complaints and technical quality discussions.
- Coordinate customer/consultant/third-party inspections and ensure timely closure of observations.
- Maintain robust customer confidence through effective quality assurance and problem resolution.
- Quality Improvement
- Drive initiatives to reduce rejection, rework, scrap, customer complaints and Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ).
- Implement Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen and other continuous improvement methodologies wherever applicable.
- Analyse quality trends and establish preventive measures.
- Audit Management
- Plan and lead internal, external, customer and certification audits.
- Ensure timely closure of audit observations and non-conformities.
- Maintain complete and accurate quality records and documentation.
- Team Management
- Lead, mentor and develop the Quality team across inspection, QA, QC and testing coordination.
- Define responsibilities, performance objectives and competency requirements for team members.
- Build technical capability within the Quality function through training and knowledge sharing.
- Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work closely with Design, Production, Testing, Procurement, Stores, Service and Project teams to resolve quality issues.
- Participate in new product/process development and review quality risks before implementation.
- Ensure effective communication of quality requirements across all relevant functions.
- Management Reporting
- Present quality performance, major defects, customer complaints, audit status, CAPA and improvement initiatives to senior management.
- Track and review Quality KPIs and implement action plans for performance improvement.
