Key Responsibilities

A. Welding Engineering & Technical Support

- Review pressure vessel drawings, fabrication drawings, weld maps, material specifications and applicable project specifications from a welding perspective.
- Determine appropriate welding processes, joint configurations, consumables, welding parameters and sequence for pressure vessel components.
- Review weld joint details for shells, heads, nozzles, flanges, reinforcement pads, attachments, supports and other pressure-retaining components.
- Provide technical support to production during fit-up, welding and post-weld operations.
- Establish appropriate welding sequences to minimize distortion, residual stresses and fabrication problems.
- Identify welding-related risks during fabrication and recommend appropriate preventive measures.
- Investigate welding defects, repair requirements and recurring fabrication problems and recommend technically appropriate corrective actions.
- Provide technical support for fabrication of carbon steel, low-alloy steel, stainless steel and other materials as applicable to the company's product range.

B. WPS / PQR / WPQ Management

- Prepare, review and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) in accordance with ASME Section IX and applicable project requirements.
- Develop and coordinate Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), including preparation of qualification test coupons, welding, testing and documentation.
- Review existing WPS/PQRs and determine their applicability to specific materials, thicknesses, welding processes, joint configurations and service requirements.
- Prepare and maintain Welder/Welding Operator Performance Qualification (WPQ) records in accordance with ASME Section IX.
- Determine welder qualification requirements and ensure that welders are appropriately qualified for assigned welding work.
- Maintain traceability between WPS, PQR, WPQ, welders, weld joints and production welds.
- Ensure proper control of essential and supplementary essential variables as applicable.
- Verify that production welding is performed within the qualified ranges of the applicable WPS/PQR.

C. ASME BPVC Compliance

- Possess strong working knowledge of ASME BPVC Section IX and its application to pressure vessel fabrication.
- Understand the relationship between ASME Section IX welding qualifications and the construction requirements of applicable ASME Section VIII pressure vessels.
- Support compliance with applicable requirements of ASME Section VIII Division 1, project specifications and approved fabrication procedures.
- Review applicable requirements relating to welding, examination, heat treatment, repairs and qualification.
- Support preparation and maintenance of welding documentation required for ASME Code fabrication and U-Stamp projects.




- Coordinate with Authorized Inspectors / Third-Party Inspectors on welding procedure qualifications, welder qualifications, production welding and related inspection requirements.

D. Welding Consumables & Material Control

- Specify and verify appropriate welding consumables for production welding.
- Ensure consumables are compatible with base materials and approved WPS requirements.
- Monitor consumable storage, issue, handling, baking, holding and reconditioning requirements.
- Establish and monitor requirements for low-hydrogen electrodes and other controlled consumables where applicable.
- Verify material and consumable traceability as required by project documentation.
- Coordinate with stores and QC to ensure only approved and qualified consumables are issued for production.

E. Welding Process Control

- Provide technical supervision/support for welding processes including, as applicable:
- SMAW
- GTAW
- GMAW
- FCAW
- SAW
- TIG
- Other qualified welding processes used by the organization
- Establish appropriate welding parameters within qualified WPS ranges.
- Monitor preheat, interpass temperature and heat input where applicable.
- Ensure proper control of welding sequence and layer deposition.
- Support welding of longitudinal and circumferential pressure-retaining seams, nozzle welds, attachment welds and other critical joints.
- Advise production teams on distortion control and corrective techniques.

F. PWHT & Heat Treatment

- Review and establish welding-related requirements for Post Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT) in accordance with applicable Code and project requirements.
- Coordinate with production/QC for PWHT activities.
- Review PWHT charts and records for compliance with specified requirements.
- Understand the impact of PWHT on material properties, welding qualifications and production welds.
- Support evaluation of situations involving local PWHT, furnace PWHT and repair-related heat treatment.

G. Welding Inspection & NDE Coordination

- Coordinate with QC/NDE personnel regarding inspection requirements for production welds.
- Review weld inspection requirements specified in drawings, ITPs, specifications and applicable Codes.
- Support VT, PT/DPT, MT, RT, UT and other applicable NDE activities.
- Review welding defects identified through NDE and determine appropriate repair methodology.




- Prepare or review weld repair procedures and ensure repairs are performed using qualified procedures and qualified welders.
- Analyse recurring weld defects and implement corrective/preventive actions.
- Support preparation and review of weld maps, NDE maps and weld traceability documentation.

H. Fabrication Documentation

- Prepare and maintain welding-related documentation, including:
- WPS
- PQR
- WPQ
- Welder qualification matrix
- Weld maps
- Weld traceability records
- Welding consumable records
- Preheat/interpass records
- PWHT records
- Weld repair records
- NDE coordination records
- Welding inspection checklists
- Ensure welding documentation is complete, traceable and available for customer/third-party inspection.
- Support preparation of manufacturing record books / quality dossiers for completed pressure vessels.

I. Production & Shop-Floor Support

- Work closely with welders, fitters, supervisors and QC inspectors on the shop floor.
- Provide immediate technical resolution to welding and fabrication issues.
- Verify that production personnel understand applicable WPS requirements.
- Conduct periodic audits of welding practices and compliance with approved procedures.
- Identify deviations from approved WPS, drawings or specifications and initiate corrective action.
- Support production planning for welding manpower, consumables, equipment and qualification requirements.

- Weld repair methodology
- NDE methods and interpretation of NDE reports
- Material identification and traceability
- Weld maps and fabrication documentation
- Pressure vessel fabrication practices
- Interpretation of engineering drawings and welding symbols

Materials Experience Experience with the following materials will be advantageous:

- Carbon steels
- Low-alloy steels
- Stainless steels
- Austenitic stainless steels
- Cr-Mo / alloy steels
- Dissimilar metal joints
- Clad or lined materials
- The candidate should understand the welding implications of material grade, thickness, carbon equivalent, heat treatment requirements
