Role Description

We are seeking a highly experienced IBM i (AS/400) RPG Developer to design, develop, enhance, and support business-critical applications on the IBM i platform. The role requires robust technical expertise, sound business understanding, and the ability to independently take ownership of complex application areas. The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in RPG development, IBM i architecture, DB2, and production support, along with the maturity to understand existing systems, analyze problems, develop solutions, and drive work through completion with minimal supervision.

The candidate will work on critical business applications including Accounts Receivable (AR) billing, credit card processing, and related financial/business processes, requiring strong attention to detail, reliability, and ownership. Key Responsibilities

- Take end-to-end ownership of IBM i applications, including analysis, development, enhancement, testing, deployment, and production support.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance business-critical applications on IBM i (AS/400) systems.
- Analyze functional and technical requirements and independently translate them into effective technical solutions.
- Work across existing and new application components, gaining a strong understanding of system functionality and business processes.
- Design, code, test, debug, and implement complex enhancements and new functionalities using RPG technologies.
- Work extensively with RPGLE, Free Format RPG, CL, DB2/400, and SQL.
- Support and enhance applications related to AR billing, credit card processing, and other business-critical financial operations.
- Investigate production issues, identify root causes, and implement sustainable fixes within defined SLA timelines.
- Independently troubleshoot complex application and data issues across programs, jobs, and database components.
- Perform code reviews and ensure adherence to development standards, coding practices,



and application quality expectations.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve application reliability, maintainability, and performance.
- Collaborate with business analysts, technical teams, and stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver solutions.
- Create and maintain technical documentation related to applications, processes, and system changes.
- Participate in system upgrades, migrations, modernization initiatives, and integration activities.
- Provide technical guidance within the team and contribute to knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.

Required

Skills

- 8+ years of hands-on experience in IBM i (AS/400) application development.
- Strong expertise in RPG III, RPG IV, RPGLE, ILE RPG, and Free Format RPG.
- Strong experience with CL/CLLE programming and DB2/400.
- Strong knowledge of Embedded SQL and SQL programming.
- Experience working with DDS, Query/400, and IBM i system utilities.
- Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and performance optimization capabilities.
- Experience supporting business-critical applications in production environments.
- Ability to understand complex legacy applications and independently work across interconnected programs and processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate issues and determine appropriate solutions.
- Positive understanding of SDLC, change management, testing, and production support processes.
- Ability to quickly understand unfamiliar application areas and become productive with limited supervision.




- Strong ownership and accountability for assigned applications, deliverables, and production issues.

Skills

- Experience working with AR billing, credit card processing, payment systems, or other financial transaction applications.
- Exposure to Web Services, APIs, and IBM i integration tools.
- Experience with Aldon, TurnOver, or other source/version control tools.
- Knowledge of modernizing and enhancing legacy IBM i applications.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
- Exposure to IBM i application integrations with modern technologies and external systems.

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of relevant IBM i / RPG development experience.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience working independently on complex IBM i applications.
