PULMONIC A MULTISPECIALITY HOSPITALJOB DESCRIPTION – ICU STAFF NURSE
Department: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
Designation: ICU Staff Nurse
Reporting To: ICU In-Charge / Nursing Superintendent / Nursing Head
Employment Type: Full-Time
Duty Hours: 8 Hours per Shift / As per Duty Roster
Shift: Rotational – Day / Evening / Night
1. JOB PURPOSE
To provide safe, effective and compassionate nursing care to critically ill patients in the ICU. The ICU Staff Nurse will be responsible for continuous patient monitoring, medication administration, emergency care, documentation, infection control and coordination with doctors and other healthcare professionals.
1. KEY RESPONSIBILITIESPatient Care
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill and unstable patients.
- Monitor and record vital signs including BP, Pulse, SpO₂, Temperature, Respiratory Rate and ECG.
- Closely observe patients for any change or deterioration in clinical condition.
- Immediately inform the treating doctor/ICU In-Charge about any abnormal findings or emergency condition.
- Maintain proper positioning, hygiene, nutrition and comfort of ICU patients.
- Maintain accurate intake and output records.
Medication & Treatment
- Administer medicines, injections, IV fluids and other treatments strictly as prescribed by the doctor.
- Follow the Five Rights of Medication Administration.
- Monitor IV lines, cannulas, central lines, urinary catheters, drains and other patient-care devices.
- Check medication expiry, dosage and proper storage as per hospital policy.
Emergency & Critical Care
- Assist doctors during CPR, intubation, emergency procedures and other critical interventions.
- Be familiar with ICU emergency protocols and crash cart procedures.
- Maintain readiness of emergency drugs and equipment.
- Assist in patient shifting/transfer whenever required.
- Follow BLS/CPR and emergency response protocols.
ICU Equipment Handling
- Operate and monitor ICU equipment as per training and hospital protocols.
- Ensure proper functioning of:
- Ventilator
- Multipara Monitor
- Infusion Pump
- Syringe Pump
- ECG Machine
- Suction Apparatus
- Defibrillator
- Oxygen & other respiratory-support equipment
- Immediately report equipment malfunction to the concerned department.
Documentation & Handover
- Maintain complete and accurate nursing documentation.
- Update patient charts, nursing notes, medication records and monitoring sheets.
- Maintain proper records of procedures, investigations and treatments.
- Conduct proper shift-to-shift patient handover.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and medical records.
Infection Control & Patient Safety
- Strictly follow hand hygiene and PPE protocols.
- Follow infection prevention and control guidelines.
- Ensure proper biomedical waste segregation and disposal.
- Follow isolation precautions wherever applicable.
- Maintain patient safety and prevent falls, pressure injuries and other avoidable complications.
Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate effectively with doctors, nursing staff, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy and other departments.
- Communicate professionally with patients and their attendants.
- Provide appropriate nursing-related information and support to patients' attendants as permitted by hospital policy.
- Maintain discipline, professionalism and teamwork within the ICU.
1. QUALIFICATION
- GNM / B.Sc. Nursing from a recognized institution.
- Valid Nursing Registration with the respective Nursing Council.
- BLS/CPR certification preferred.
- ACLS certification will be an added advantage.
1. EXPERIENCE
- Preferred: 1–3 years of ICU/Critical Care experience.
- Candidates with relevant hospital/ICU experience will be preferred.
- Freshers with valuable clinical knowledge may be considered based on hospital requirements.

- Good knowledge of critical-care nursing.
- Ability to handle emergency and critical situations.
- Knowledge of ventilator and ICU monitoring.
- Knowledge of medication administration and IV therapy.

1. PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
The ICU Staff Nurse is expected to:

- Follow hospital SOPs, nursing protocols and clinical guidelines.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation.
- Ensure proper medication and treatment compliance.

- Respond promptly to emergencies.

- Cooperate with hospital quality and NABH-related processes.
1. GENERAL DUTIES
- Attend duty punctually according to the duty roster.
- Maintain proper uniform, grooming and professional appearance.
- Follow all hospital rules, regulations and policies.
- Attend nursing meetings, training sessions and competency assessments.
- Participate in audits, drills and quality-improvement activities.
- Perform any other nursing-related duties assigned by the Nursing Head/ICU In-Charge.
1. JOB LOCATION
Pulmonic A Multispecialty Hospital Pay: ₹18,000.00 - ₹22,000.35 per month
