Medical Coder – Dermatology – Provider Audit

Experience
3–4 years of dermatology coding/auditing experience
Certification
Mandatory: CPC, CPMA, CCS, or CDEO
Candidates without an active certification should not be considered.
Role
Conduct chart-level audits of dermatology encounters for ICD-10-CM, CPT, and E/M accuracy, identify documentation gaps and coding errors, prepare audit-defensible feedback, and support provider education.
Key Responsibilities
- Audit dermatology charts, including E/M, biopsies, excisions, destruction, Mohs, and cryotherapy.
- Validate documentation for medical necessity, modifier usage (-25, -59/-XS/-XU, -51), and pathology correlation.
- Apply applicable CMS, NCCI, and payer LCD/NCD guidelines.
- Prepare documentation improvement feedback.
- Support provider education based on audit findings.
Requirements
- 3–4 years of dermatology-specific coding/auditing experience.
- Active CPC, CPMA, CCS, or CDEO certification.
- Strong knowledge of dermatology CPT coding.
- Working knowledge of 2023 E/M MDM guidelines and modifier application.
- Solid written communication skills for audit documentation.
- Prior audit experience is preferred, even if auditing is not the candidate's primary current role.
Preferred
- Multi-provider/multi-site audit experience.
- CDI exposure.
- Experience with EMA, Athena, or Epic
