Product Owner — Cligent Aerospace

Location: Ahmedabad/Bangalore

Work Mode: Full-time | In office

Experience: 2–7 years preferred

Education: B.E./B.Tech/M.Tech in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, or related engineering discipline

About Cligent Aerospace

Cligent Aerospace is building the next generation of Hybrid-Electric STOL aircraft for distributed aviation.

We are developing aircraft that can operate from short, unprepared runways and connect regions, industries and communities that traditional aviation cannot efficiently serve.

Our product roadmap spans CS-23 aircrafts built around STOL, hybrid-electric propulsion and distributed electric propulsion.

We are looking for a Product Owner who can take ownership of the product and work closely with engineering, business, customers and certification teams to turn market requirements into aircraft that can actually fly, certify and scale.

The Role

As Product Owner, you will own the product definition and development roadmap for one or more Cligent aircraft platforms.

You will be the bridge between:

Customer → Business → Product → Engineering → Testing → Certification → Manufacturing

You will translate customer and market requirements into clear product requirements, prioritize engineering efforts, track development milestones and ensure that the aircraft being built solves a real commercial problem.

This is a highly hands-on role. You will not just prepare roadmaps or presentations — you will be expected to work directly with engineers, visit test sites, participate in flight-test reviews, speak with customers and make product decisions.

Key Responsibilities

- As a Product Owner at Cligent Aerospace, you will own the product vision, roadmap and development priorities across our aircraft programs, translating customer, market and operational requirements into measurable aircraft specifications while balancing performance, cost, manufacturability, certification and customer value. You will work closely with airlines, cargo operators, defence organizations, fleet operators and other customers to understand their routes, payload, turnaround, operational and economic requirements, convert MoUs, LoIs and customer conversations into actionable product requirements,

and continuously track competitor aircraft, technologies, pricing and capabilities. You will work with multidisciplinary engineering teams across aerodynamics, structures, propulsion, electrical and electronics, avionics, flight controls, software, battery and energy systems, manufacturing, flight testing and certification to define and maintain key aircraft parameters including payload, range, cruise speed, take-off and landing distance, MTOW, power requirements, battery/generator architecture, propulsion configuration, cabin/cargo configuration, operating environment, maintenance requirements and target aircraft economics. You will own product requirements and specifications, development priorities, milestones and acceptance criteria, coordinate prototype and demonstrator development, participate in design reviews and flight-test reviews, identify technical gaps and dependencies, and ensure learnings from testing are incorporated into the product roadmap. You will also work closely with certification and engineering teams to ensure product decisions align with the applicable DGCA / CS-23 certification pathway , maintain requirements traceability and support compliance planning. On the commercial side, you will evaluate aircraft acquisition cost, operating cost, cost per flight hour, seat-km/tonne-km economics, utilization, maintenance costs, route economics and customer ROI, ensuring that we are not just building an aircraft, but building an aircraft that customers can operate profitably. You will also own key product documentation including the Product Requirements Document (PRD), product roadmap, specifications, customer requirement matrix, prioritization framework, product lifecycle documentation, competitive benchmarking, product performance dashboards and development milestone reports .

What We're Looking For

Must Have

- 2–7 years of experience in aerospace, aviation, automotive, EV, robotics,

drones, defence or complex hardware products .
- Strong understanding of product development.
- Ability to work with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to convert ambiguous customer requirements into clear specifications.
- Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Comfort working in a fast-moving startup environment.
- Strong ownership mentality.

Good to Have
- Experience with aircraft / UAV / EV / electric propulsion development.
- Experience with flight testing or aerospace certification.
- Understanding of STOL aircraft, electric propulsion or hybrid-electric systems.
- Experience working with defence or aviation customers.
- Experience with CAD, systems engineering or engineering documentation.
- Experience with product management tools.
- Startup experience.

Who Will Succeed Here You will do well at Cligent if you:
- Think like an engineer and a product manager .
- Can go from a customer conversation to an engineering requirement.
- Are comfortable challenging engineering assumptions with data.
- Are equally comfortable sitting in a design review and talking to a customer.
- Take ownership instead of waiting for instructions.
- Move fast but understand the consequences of decisions in aerospace.
- Care about the aircraft actually flying, certifying and entering service.

What You'll Own Your success will ultimately be measured by whether we can move from:

Customer Need → Product Definition → Prototype → Flight Test → Certification → Commercial Aircraft with speed, clarity and disciplined execution.

Why Cligent?

You won't be joining a company that is making another software product. You'll be working on real aircraft, real propulsion systems and real flight operations . You will have the opportunity to work directly with the founding team and contribute to the development of aircraft that could fundamentally change how regional aviation works in India and the Global South.

If you want to build the future of aviation rather than just manage a roadmap, this is the role.

Apply: Share your CV along with 3–5 lines on a product/hardware project you have personally taken [email protected]
