We're looking for a Principal Engineer with 10+ years of experience (3+ at principal/staff level) and hands-on, production-grade agentic delivery experience — ideally with Claude Code — to set the agentic development standard, fix the testing bottleneck, and embed with teams until they can run it independently. This is a hands-on, in-the-code role, not a methodology handed off from the outside.

Key Responsibilities

- Define and document the agentic development lifecycle (intent, spec, implementation, review, test, release) with guardrails at each stage
- Design a harness-agnostic control plane: skill authoring, agent/squad definitions, MCP server configuration, right-sized model mapping
- Rebuild the testing strategy across in-house and integration-heavy domains to make autonomous merge defensible
- Define release gates — what can ship green to production, what still needs human sign-off
- Embed inside domain teams (1–5 engineers each), pairing and reviewing on their real roadmap
- Leave each team with a named owner, working configuration, and documentation
- Define governance for agent-generated changes: secrets handling, audit trails, EU AI Act compliance
- Publish monthly delivery metrics: cycle time, change failure rate, test coverage, token spend
- Lead a supporting engineering pod and report to the client's Director of Engineering

Required Skills





- 10+ years building and shipping production software, including 3+ at principal/staff level
- Demonstrable agentic delivery experience — real production systems, not pilots or evaluations
- Deep hands-on experience with an agentic coding harness (Claude Code preferred), plus familiarity with at least one alternative
- Strong test automation and release engineering background
- Strength in either back-end services or React, with credible range across both
- Cloud-native, event-driven architecture: CI/CD, GitHub Actions, trunk-based branching
- Proven ability to influence and drive adoption within an existing engineering organisation
- Working fluency in English; based in or willing to relocate to Amsterdam, with the right to work in the Netherlands

Valuable to Have

- Experience migrating from Azure DevOps to GitHub
- Retail, commerce, ERP or supply-chain integration background
- Familiarity with .NET or comparable enterprise back-end stacks
- Experience building evaluation harnesses for coding agents
- MCP server design and skill authoring
- Experience with self-hosted or open-weight models for cost optimisation
- Practical Jira and Confluence experience
- Coaching or enablement experience with small teams (1–5 engineers)
