Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop sheet metal components, assemblies, and products based on customer and business requirements.
- Create detailed 3D models, manufacturing drawings, and BOMs using CAD software.
- Develop sheet metal parts considering manufacturability, tooling feasibility, bending allowances, tolerances, and assembly requirements.
- Perform design validation and engineering calculations related to strength, fitment, and material selection.
- Coordinate with tooling and production teams during prototype and production stages.
- Support current product development activities from concept to production release.
- Review and optimize designs for cost reduction, weight reduction, and process improvement.
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards, safety requirements, and quality specifications.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and provide design solutions for continuous improvement.
- Maintain engineering documents, revision records, and design databases.
- Collaborate with suppliers and vendors for sheet metal fabrication and tooling development.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in Mechanical Design with significant exposure to Sheet Metal Design.
- Strong understanding of sheet metal manufacturing processes including:
- Punching
- Bending/Forming
- Welding
- Powder Coating
- Assembly Processes
- Laser Cutting
- Hands-on experience in product development and manufacturing support.
Technical Skills - CAD Software Proficiency Hands-on experience in one or more of the following:
- SolidWorks
- Creo (Pro/Engineer)
- Autodesk Inventor
- CATIA
Design & Engineering Knowledge
- Advanced Sheet Metal Design Standards and Best Practices
- Parametric 3D Modelling and Assembly Design
- Design Automation and Configuration Management
- GD&T; (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
- Tolerance Stack-Up Analysis
- DFM
- DFA
- Material Selection and Fabrication Techniques
- Design Validation and Engineering Change Management
- Preparation of Manufacturing Drawings and BOMs
- Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems and Engineering Change Control processes
- Revision Management, Document Control, and Product Data Management (PDM)
Additional Preferred Skills
- Experience in Parametric Modelling, Top-Down Design, and Design Reusability Concepts.
- Working knowledge of PLM/PDM platforms such as Windchill, Autodesk Vault, or equivalent systems.
- Experience in managing Engineering Change Requests (ECR), Engineering Change Notices (ECN), and Product Release Processes.
- Understanding of product configuration management and revision control methodologies.
Additional Responsibility (Recommended Addition)
- Develop and maintain parametric CAD models to improve design efficiency, standardization, and product configurability.
- Manage product data and engineering documentation within the organization's PLM/PDM system, ensuring accurate revision control and traceability throughout the product lifecycle.
