Company & Role Overview
Seablue Shipyard Ltd is an active ship repair, conversion, and current-construction yard based in Ernakulam, catering to commercial vessels, offshore units, inland craft, and defense-support vessels.
We are looking for an experienced and safety-conscious Marine Lagger (Insulation Technician) to carry out thermal, acoustic, and fire-boundary insulation works across vessels, engine compartments, exhaust systems, cargo spaces, and structural deck heads. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing steel boundaries, measuring and fitting high-temperature insulation media, fabricating and securing protective sheet-metal cladding (jacketing), and applying marine-approved cloth/mastic systems in strict compliance with classification rules and SOLAS requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Surface Preparation & Fastener Installation
- Review insulation schedules, ship general arrangement drawings, outfitting layouts, and pipe routing diagrams.
- Clean and mechanically prepare structural bulkheads, deckheads, and pipe spools to accept insulation fasteners.
- Install insulation retaining pins (capacitor discharge CD-studs, cup-head weld pins, perforated base anchors) using stud welders or marine-grade bonding agents.
1. Thermal & Acoustic Insulation Application
- Measure, cut, and fit marine-grade insulation materials including rockwool (slabs, wire-backed mattresses), ceramic fiber blankets, glass wool boards, calcium silicate, and elastomeric closed-cell foam.
- Install high-temperature thermal barriers on main and auxiliary engine exhaust manifolds, uptakes, silencers, and steam/thermal fluid lines.
- Install structural fire protection (A-60 / A-30 / A-15 / H-120 rated bulkheads and decks) and acoustic dampening panels inside machinery control rooms and accommodation boundaries.
- Secure insulation media using galvanized/stainless steel tie wire, banding straps, and speed clips.

- Experience:
- 3+ years of hands-on experience as a Lagger / Insulation Technician in a shipyard, offshore fabrication facility, marine engineering workshop, or heavy process plant.
