Role Overview
- This is a full-time sales role within HarperCollins Education, responsible for developing and growing the school business in the assigned territory.
- The role will focus on building strong relationships with schools, school groups, educators, principals, teachers, and other key decision-makers to drive adoption of HarperCollins Education’s products and solutions.
- The Sales Professional will be responsible for achieving business targets through new school acquisition, business development, and retention and growth of existing accounts.
- The role involves understanding the needs of schools and recommending relevant textbooks, digital solutions, and other educational offerings from the HarperCollins Education portfolio.
- Key responsibilities include conducting school visits, product presentations and demonstrations, coordinating meetings with key stakeholders, managing the sales cycle, negotiating commercials, and converting opportunities into business.
- The role requires strong understanding of the local education market, curriculum requirements, school buying cycles, and competitive landscape, along with regular market visits to identify opportunities and gather customer insights.
- The Sales Professional will work closely with Editorial, Marketing, Operations, Customer Service and other internal teams to share market feedback,
support product development and launches, and ensure smooth fulfilment and customer satisfaction.
- The role also includes maintaining an accurate sales pipeline and customer database/CRM, preparing periodic business reports, tracking targets and collections, and monitoring competitor activities.
- Participation in school events, educator engagements, book fairs, academic conferences, exhibitions and other promotional activities will be required as part of business development and brand building.
- The role requires ownership of the assigned territory, including business planning, forecasting, target achievement and long-term account development.
Qualifications & Experience
- Proven experience in education sales, school sales, publishing or a related B2B sales environment, preferably with experience selling to schools.
- Strong understanding of the K-12 education ecosystem, school decision-making processes and curriculum-led business is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with school management, principals, coordinators, teachers and other education stakeholders.
- Strong communication, presentation, influencing and negotiation skills, with the ability to effectively present educational products and solutions.
- Good customer relationship and account management skills, including current business development, follow-up, issue resolution and retention of existing accounts.
- Ability to manage a sales pipeline, prepare business reports, analyse territory performance and use CRM/sales tracking tools effectively.
- Willingness to undertake regular territory travel and school visits and manage multiple accounts and opportunities independently.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Education or a related discipline; relevant experience in education/publishing sales will be an advantage.
- Self-driven, target-oriented and commercially minded, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Adaptability and willingness to learn about new products, curricula, digital education solutions and evolving requirements of the school market.
