Job Purpose The PCB Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) are manufactured according to approved customer specifications, Gerber data, drawings, IPC standards, and internal quality procedures.

The engineer will monitor quality from raw material inspection to final PCB inspection and dispatch.

1. Incoming Material Quality Inspection

- Inspect incoming copper-clad laminates (CCL), prepreg, copper foil, chemicals, solder mask, legend ink, and other materials.
- Verify material specifications against purchase orders and approved specifications.
- Check material thickness, copper thickness, dimensions, and physical condition.
- Maintain incoming inspection records.
- Raise NCR for rejected or non-conforming material.
- Coordinate with Purchase and suppliers for quality issues.

1. Gerber & Engineering Data Verification

- Verify customer Gerber files, drawings, specifications, and manufacturing requirements.
- Check PCB dimensions and tolerances.
- Verify layer details for single-sided and double-sided PCBs.
- Review drill data, hole sizes, slots, cut-outs, and routing requirements.
- Verify copper thickness and finished board thickness.
- Check solder mask and legend requirements.
- Ensure the correct revision is released to production.

1. In-Process Quality Control

Monitor quality at different stages of PCB manufacturing: Cutting & Material Preparation
- Check panel size and material identification.
- Verify laminate thickness.

Drilling
- Check drill diameter and hole accuracy.
- Monitor burrs, breakout, and hole quality.
- Verify PTH and NPTH requirements.

Imaging / Etching
- Check track width and spacing.
- Inspect for open circuits and short circuits.
- Monitor over-etching and under-etching.
- Check unwanted copper and pattern accuracy.

Plating
- Monitor copper plating quality and thickness.
- Check hole-wall coverage for plated-through holes.
- Identify voids, pits, nodules, and other defects.

Solder Mask
- Check solder-mask coverage and alignment.
- Inspect for pinholes, scratches, bubbles, and exposed unwanted copper.




- Verify solder-mask registration.

Legend / Silkscreen
- Check text accuracy and readability.
- Verify alignment with the approved artwork.

Routing / V-Groove
- Verify board dimensions.
- Check cut-outs, slots, edge routing, and V-groove dimensions.
- Ensure there are no burrs or mechanical damages.

1. Final PCB Inspection

Inspect finished PCBs for:
- Correct dimensions
- Board thickness
- Copper thickness
- Hole diameter
- PTH and NPTH quality
- Track width and spacing
- Open and short circuits
- Etching defects
- Plating quality
- Solder mask defects
- Silkscreen accuracy
- Surface finish quality
- Scratches and physical damage
- Cut-outs and slots
- Routing quality
- Warpage and bow/twist
- Cleanliness

Ensure final PCB meets the approved Gerber data, drawings, customer specifications, and applicable IPC acceptance criteria.

1. Electrical Testing

- Conduct or coordinate continuity testing.
- Perform open-circuit and short-circuit testing.
- Use appropriate electrical test fixtures or test equipment.
- Maintain electrical test records.
- Ensure defective PCBs are identified and segregated.

1. Non-Conformance & Rejection Control

- Identify and segregate rejected PCBs.
- Prepare NCR (Non-Conformance Report).
- Record defects and rejection quantities.
- Coordinate with Production to control further defects.
- Monitor rework and scrap.
- Maintain rejection analysis reports.

1. Root Cause Analysis & Corrective Action

Analyze repeated quality issues using:
- 5 Why Analysis
- Fishbone Diagram
- Pareto Analysis
- CAPA – Corrective and Preventive Action

Common PCB defects to analyze include:
- Open circuit
- Short circuit
- Under-etching
- Over-etching
- Drill breakout
- Plating void
- Solder mask defects
- Copper peel-off
- Scratch
- Wrong dimensions
- Warpage
- Incorrect Gerber revision

Customer Complaint Handling

- Receive and record customer quality complaints.
- Analyze returned/rejected PCBs.
- Identify the root cause.
- Coordinate with Production and Engineering.
- Prepare corrective action reports.
- Follow up until complaint closure.
- Maintain customer complaint and rejection records.

- Incoming Material Inspection Reports
- In-Process Inspection Reports
- Final Inspection Reports
- Electrical Test Reports
- NCR Reports
- CAPA Reports
- Customer Complaint Reports
- Rejection Reports

- Diploma / BE / B.Tech in Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Production, or Manufacturing Engineering.
- PCB manufacturing experience preferred.
- Freshers with positive electronics and quality knowledge may also be considered.

Overall Responsibility To ensure that every PCB manufactured and dispatched meets the approved customer requirements, Gerber specifications, dimensional requirements, electrical performance requirements, and applicable quality standards while continuously reducing rejection, rework, and customer complaints. Pay: ₹10,000.00 - ₹15,000.00 per month
