ACS International India is hiring Publishing Editors for ACS Omega, with expertise in the chemical sciences and related fields, based in its Delhi office.

This role supports the growth of ACS Publications’ global editorial presence and involves implementing publishing practices and policies that promote rigorous peer review and timely publication.

The incumbent will play a central role in the publishing process by overseeing the day-to-day management of peer review.

The Publishing

Editor will collaborate with the Lead Editor, Editor in Chief and the academic editors, to enhance journal operations and improve the author experience. An essential part of the job is to provide excellent service to authors, reviewers, editors, and the journal. This role also involves working closely with editors to manage publishing integrity cases.

The ideal candidate should possess strong scientific knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to engage with a variety of stakeholders.

The incumbent works with a team of ACS Omega Publishing Editors, within the Global Editorial Strategy team, and reports to a Team Lead, based in India, working closely with the Lead Editor, based in Oxford, UK.

The ACS International India employees work in a hybrid work schedule, consisting of working onsite in the ACS International India office, Delhi, two days per week. While always welcome to work in the office, employees may work the other three days of the week from a location in Delhi of their choice.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities

- Screening and scientific evaluation of submitted manuscripts for suitability for ACS Omega, based on scope and quality.
- Support Editors in identifying appropriate reviewers and handle authors and reviewer communications, in accordance with ACS Publication authors’ and ethical guidelines.




- Provide scientific recommendations to support editorial decision making, as well as assist in the communication of editorial decisions.
- Support editors in evaluating ethical concerns with published and unpublished articles, following established best practices such as those set by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and ACS Publications ethical guidelines and policies

Required Qualifications

- A Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering/Biotechnology, Materials Science and Engineering, and other branches of Chemical, Materials or Physical Sciences. Candidates who have submitted their Ph.D. thesis are also encouraged to apply.
- 1-3 years of relevant, post-Ph.D. training and experience in an academic, industrial or scientific publishing role is preferred.
- Broad subject knowledge and interest in the chemical sciences and related fields, with a willingness to learn new subject areas. The candidate should be comfortable working with different subject communities outside previous expertise.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with fluency in English language, grammar, and syntax.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to make reasoned decisions based on information available.
- High degree of professionalism and responsiveness in email communication
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure or to a deadline, manage own workload, and prioritize effectively.
- Proactive approach to problem-solving, strong resourcefulness, flexible attitude, self-confidence, and self-motivation
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to relate successfully to a variety of people externally and internally. Ability to form solid working relationships with global colleagues, authors, reviewers and editors.

Travel Expectations Travel expectations may include in-country travel for events and activities and occasional international travel for meetings
