PR & Outreach Intern

Employment Type: Full-time Internship

Duration: 3 months

Stipend: Up to ₹20,000 per month

Role Overview The PR & Outreach Intern will support India Autism Center’s communications, public relations, media engagement, and outreach initiatives. The role will contribute to strengthening IAC’s media presence, identifying relevant storytelling opportunities, developing journalist and podcast networks, and supporting outreach campaigns across the disability, health, education, and social impact sectors.

The intern will gain practical exposure to disability-focused PR, media relations, content development, stakeholder outreach, and communication strategy.

Key Responsibilities

1. PR Research & Content Development

- Research relevant news, trends, advocacy narratives, topical issues, and story opportunities related to autism, disability, health, education, and social impact.
- Assist in developing press releases, authored articles, industry stories, pitch notes, and other PR content.
- Identify relevant narratives and media opportunities aligned with IAC’s work and positioning.
- Support the development and execution of PR campaigns and awareness-day communications.

2. Media Research & Relationship Building

- Research and map journalists, publications, podcasts, and media platforms relevant to IAC’s communication objectives.
- Build and maintain structured media lists categorized by publication type, beat, and relevance.
- Draft and support outreach to journalists, podcast guests, experts, advocates, creators, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Conduct follow-ups and maintain communication records for ongoing media and podcast outreach.

3. Podcast & Stakeholder Outreach

- Research and identify relevant podcast speakers including experts, caregivers, professionals, creators, and advocates.
- Build and maintain an outreach database of potential podcast guests and collaborators.




- Support outreach and coordination with podcast guests and external stakeholders.
- Assist departments in identifying relevant collaboration and outreach opportunities with organisations, communities, and experts.

4. Media Monitoring & Competitive Analysis

- Track relevant news stories, media conversations, publications, and developments across the disability and social impact ecosystem.
- Maintain daily media tracking and outreach records.
- Analyse the communication and PR strategies of relevant organisations and campaigns.
- Develop and update competitor analysis to identify applicable PR and communication strategies for IAC.

5. Coordination, Reporting & Documentation

- Coordinate internally with departments to understand PR and outreach requirements and opportunities.
- Maintain journalist databases, media lists, outreach trackers, and PR documentation.
- Support media follow-ups and ongoing PR coordination.
- Prepare periodic PR plans, reports, and documentation for review.
- Present internship learnings and an overall understanding of disability-focused PR at the end of the internship.

Key Outcomes

By the end of the internship, the intern is expected to contribute towards:

- Development and pitching of relevant PR content, including press releases, authored articles, and industry stories.
- Identification and outreach to a minimum of 15 relevant podcast speakers, with a target of 10 podcast opportunities during the internship.
- Establishment of relationships with relevant journalists and achievement of at least 2 journalist interests/engagements for IAC coverage.
- Achievement of at least 2 relevant media coverages,



such as authored articles or standalone stories.

Must-Have Requirements

- Undergraduate or postgraduate student/recent graduate in Public Relations, Mass Communication, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good research and information-gathering abilities.
- Ability to draft clear and professional communication.
- Solid organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Comfortable with outreach, follow-ups, and stakeholder communication.
- Willingness to work on-site in Kolkata for the full duration of the internship.

Preferred Skills

- Prior internship or project experience in PR, media, journalism, communications, outreach, or social impact.
- Familiarity with media research, journalist mapping, or podcast outreach.
- Understanding of social media and digital communication.
- Ability to track information using spreadsheets and structured databases.
- Interest in disability, autism, healthcare, education, or social impact communication.

Growth Opportunity

This internship provides hands-on exposure to public relations, media relations, stakeholder outreach, content development, campaign planning, and communication strategy within the social impact sector. Strong performance may provide opportunities for continued engagement with the Communications team, subject to organisational requirements and available opportunities.
