Role & responsibilities The PD Merchandiser will act as the bridge between design, production, and sales, ensuring that collections are market-driven, cost-effective, and profitable. They will work closely with the factory in Surat, suppliers, and retail buyers to create and deliver high-quality lab-grown diamond jewelry that meets pricing and margin expectations.
Product Merchandising & Development
- Conceptualize and develop gold and diamond jewellery collections based on trends and market insights.
- Ensure alignment of design aesthetics with cost and commercial viability.
- Drive timely launches and innovative assortments for seasonal and festive periods.
Buying & Vendor Management
- Source and negotiate with vendors, karigars, and suppliers to optimize cost, quality, and timelines.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards and ethical sourcing practices.
- Maintain strong vendor relationships and evaluate supplier performance regularly.
Inventory Planning & Sales Support
- Monitor stock levels, sell-through rates, and category performance.
- Optimize inventory across channels to maximize profitability.
- Implement stock rotation strategies to minimize dead stock.
Market Research & Trend Analysis
- Track competitor collections, pricing, and consumer demand trends.
- Recommend new product lines and design directions based on insights.
- Contribute to brand positioning strategies with data-driven inputs.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with design, production, retail, and marketing teams.
- Support launches with product training and merchandising strategies.
- Ensure cohesive execution of brand vision across channels.
Leadership & Team Management
- Guide and mentor junior merchandisers, designers and cross-functional team members.
- Lead projects from concept to execution with accountability for outcomes.
Key Skills, Competencies & Qualifications
Commercial & Merchandising Expertise
- Proven Expertise in Gold Jewellery Merchandising with a deep understanding of US and India retail pricing structures, B2B wholesale markups, and margin expectations.
- Strategic Sourcing & Negotiation: Solid experience in vendor negotiation, sourcing, and supply chain management, including securing optimal pricing from manufacturers.
- Data-Driven Collection Development: Excellent analytical, numerical, and trend forecasting skills to translate insights on market trends, pricing, and inventory into commercially viable collections.
Technical & Leadership Skills
- Financial and System Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in MS Excel (including costing sheets and financial modeling for pricing), ERP/Merchandising systems, and knowledge of jewellery design software (preferred).
- Leadership & Communication: Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and team mentoring abilities, coupled with excellent communication and presentation skills for effective buyer and supplier negotiations.
