Role: Design-Development Engineer – Chassis – Pedal System, Jack & Tools, Skid Plates
Responsibilities:
- Engineering, Design & Development of Pedal Systems (Brake, Clutch, Accelerator), Jack & Tool Kits, and Skid Plates for current & recent programs.
- Design and development of pedal box assemblies, including pedal structure, kinematics, mounting interfaces, and integration with brake booster, master cylinder, and clutch systems.
- Development of accelerator pedal modules (mechanical/electronic), ensuring functional performance, durability, and customer feel targets.
- Design & validation of vehicle jack systems and onboard toolkits (jack, wheel wrench, accessories), ensuring compliance with safety, usability, and regulatory requirements.
- Development of underbody protection systems (Skid Plates) considering impact resistance, durability, corrosion protection, and vehicle integration.
- Define system requirements, load cases, and performance targets as per vehicle functional objectives.
- Prepare Requirement Matrix, RFQ, and Technical Specifications, and lead supplier sourcing and evaluation.
- Conduct technical reviews with suppliers, finalize DVP&R;, and ensure on-time development deliverables.
- Lead supplier development activities including tooling, fixtures, gauges, process validation, and PPAP approval.
- Work closely with suppliers on process capability, error proofing, control plans, and PFMEA.
- Ensure compliance with homologation, safety, and regulatory requirements (India and export markets).
- Support vehicle builds (Prototype, Pilot, Production) and resolve build issues in coordination with plant teams.
- Ensure design for manufacturability, assembly, serviceability, cost, and weight optimization.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including CAE, Testing, Materials, Packaging, Vehicle Integration, and Supplier Quality.
- Address component, subsystem, and vehicle field/warranty issues through structured root cause analysis.
- Follow standard product development processes, ensuring timely closure of program milestones and quality gates.
Qualifications, Experience & Competency
Preferred Education
- Bachelor’s / Master’s Degree in Mechanical / Automobile Engineering
Essential 5 to 8 years of experience with automotive OEM or equivalent in:
- Pedal Systems (Brake, Clutch, Accelerator)
- Jack & onboard tool systems
- Underbody / Skid plate components
In-depth experience in:
- Product development process, supplier evaluation, technical reviews
- DFMEA, DVP&R;, Control Plan, PFMEA, PPAPRoot cause analysis (development and field issues) Strong knowledge of:
- Pedal ergonomics, force characteristics, and kinematics
- Structural design, fatigue, stiffness, NVH
- Safety and regulatory requirements for jack and tool systems
- Materials and manufacturing processes (sheet metal, casting, forging, plastics)
Hands-on experience with:
- CATIA / UG NX / Teamcenter
- GD&T; and tolerance stack-up
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Experience
- Vehicle assembly process knowledge
- Experience in pedal system integration with braking & powertrain systems
- Knowledge of tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing processes
- Exposure to global vehicle development programs
