Role & responsibilities

Database Operations & Platform Health

Monitor and maintain enterprise relational database platforms Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL — ensuring continuous availability, performance, and replication health across on-premises and cloud environments

– Manage day-to-day database operations — instance health monitoring, tablespace and storage management, alert log review, backup job verification, and scheduled maintenance tasks

– Provide L2/L3 support for database incidents — performing structured troubleshooting, diagnosing performance issues, resolving connectivity and locking problems, and restoring service within defined SLA commitments

– Monitor and operate cloud-native database services — AWS RDS/Aurora and GCP Cloud SQL — including replica lag monitoring, automated backup verification, parameter group management, and failover validation – Execute database configuration changes, patching, and version upgrades — following approved change management procedures with pre-change validation and post-change verification

– Perform database performance monitoring and tuning support — identifying slow queries, reviewing execution plans, analysing wait events, and escalating to Principal Engineers for complex optimisation work

– Manage MongoDB replica set and Atlas cluster operations — monitoring replication status, managing index builds, and supporting operational queries

– Maintain CMDB accuracy for database assets — instance inventory, connection strings, schema ownership, and lifecycle records — to audit-ready standards

Middleware & Integration Platform Operations

– Monitor and maintain IBM MQ and RabbitMQ messaging infrastructure — queue depth monitoring, dead-letter queue management, channel status, and HA cluster health across all environments

– Operate IBM WAS, IBM IHS, Tomcat, Apache HTTP Server platforms — broker cluster operations, topic design, partition strategy, consumer group management, Schema Registry, and Kafka Connect pipelines

– Support MuleSoft Anypoint Platform operations — Mule runtime monitoring, application deployment support, alert triage, and API health monitoring across CloudHub and on-premises runtimes

– Monitor and support CA SiteMinder Authentication platform and adapter configuration, process orchestration, HA deployment,

and performance tuning – Manage API Gateway operations — IBM WAS, IBM IHS, Tomcat, Apache HTTP Server – Istio or Linked — for microservices traffic management, mTLS enforcement, observability, and circuit breaking

– Perform structured incident management for middleware events — message delivery failures, integration flow errors, connectivity outages — with accurate RCA documentation and preventive action tracking

– Execute middleware configuration changes, patch cycles, and version updates — following approved change procedures with pre- and post-change validation

– Maintain operational runbooks, SOPs, and platform documentation for all database and middleware platforms — keeping procedures current, accurate, and audit-ready

Security, Compliance & Continuous Improvement

– Manage database user access requests, role assignments, and access reviews — enforcing least-privilege principles and ensuring compliance with PCI DSS and SOX access controls

– Monitor and respond to database and middleware security alerts — unauthorised access attempts, privilege escalation events, and compliance policy violations

– Support audit and regulatory activities — producing database access logs, configuration exports, backup evidence, and MiFID II call recording compliance documentation as required – Execute vulnerability remediation and security patching across database and middleware platforms — tracking CVEs, prioritising remediation, and evidencing closure within SLA

– Participate in on-call and escalation support rotas for Tier 1 database and middleware services

– Contribute to continuous improvement — identifying recurring failure patterns, toil reduction opportunities, and automation candidates within the data and integration operations function

Preferred candidate profile

Must-Have Technical Skills

Oracle Operations: Instance monitoring, alert log analysis, tablespace management, RMAN backup verification, AWR/ASH report reading, and L2 incident support

SQL Server Operations: AlwaysOn AG health monitoring, SQL Agent job management, index maintenance, blocking/deadlock analysis, and backup/restore operations

PostgreSQL Operations: Streaming replication monitoring, VACUUM management, pg stat analysis, connection pooling (PgBouncer), and backup/restore procedures

MongoDB Operations: Replica set monitoring, Atlas cluster management, slow query log analysis, index build support, and backup verification

Cloud DB Services: AWS RDS/Aurora and GCP Cloud SQL — instance monitoring, replica lag, parameter management, automated backup verification, and failover testing

CA SiteMinder: Authentication platform and adapter configuration, process orchestration, HA deployment, and performance tuning App/Web Services: Design, Installation, configure, monitor and troubleshooting of IBM WAS, Weblogic, JBoss, Tomcat, IBM IHS, Apache

IBM MQ: MQ queue manager HA clustering, channel security, dead-letter handling adapter configuration, and performance tuning

MuleSoft Operations: Anypoint runtime monitoring, application deployment, alert triage, API health checks, and CloudHub / on-prem runtime support

Incident & Change Management: Structured P1–P3 incident handling, ITIL-aligned change execution, post-change verification, and RCA documentation in FSI environments

Database Security: User access management, least-privilege enforcement, TDE and encryption verification, access log review, and audit evidence production
