1. POSITION DETAILS
Position: National Logistics Manager
Function: Supply Chain / Logistics / Warehousing & Distribution
Level: Senior Management
Location: Ahmedabad
Reporting To: Directors

Team: DC Operations, Warehouse Operations, Process Excellence, WMS/SAP Operations and Project Implementation Teams
Geographical Responsibility: Multiple Distribution Centres across India
Travel Requirement: Extensive travel across India
Nature of Role: Strategic + Technical + Operational + Project Implementation
2. ROLE PURPOSE The National Logistics Manager will be responsible for providing national-level leadership for large-scale FMCG warehousing and distribution operations, covering multiple Distribution Centres (DCs) located across different geographical regions of India.
The role requires a highly experienced, technically solid, process-oriented and hands-on logistics professional who has demonstrated the ability to manage complex, high-volume FMCG distribution operations while simultaneously driving productivity, technology adoption, warehouse engineering, process standardisation and cost optimisation.
The incumbent will have overall responsibility for ensuring that all Distribution Centres operate at the required levels of service, productivity, inventory accuracy, safety, quality and cost efficiency.
This position is not intended to be a conventional review, reporting or MIS-driven logistics management role.
The organisation is looking for a professional who is capable of moving between:
- Warehouse operation as per client KPIs
- Warehouse engineering
- Warehouse design
- Warehouse sizing
- Material-flow analysis
- Racking design
- Process engineering
- SAP
- WMS
- Inventory management
- Productivity analysis
- Cost optimisation
- FMCG distribution
- New project implementation
- Operational troubleshooting
- Team leadership
- Client management
- On-ground execution
The candidate should be able to analyse an operation,
understand what is actually happening on the warehouse floor, identify the root cause of inefficiencies, design an improved operating model and personally drive its implementation. A critical component of the role will be the implementation of new projects. For new warehouses or customer transitions, the incumbent is expected to participate from the earliest stage of data analysis, solution design, warehouse sizing and layout development, through implementation, go-live and stabilisation.
The individual must therefore be willing to spend significant time at project locations during implementation and remain at the location until the operation is adequately stabilised and agreed service and productivity levels are consistently achieved.
3. CORE OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE The primary objective of the National Logistics Manager is to build and manage a high-performing, technology-enabled, process-driven and scalable national distribution network.
The role will focus on six fundamental outcomes:
1. Operational Excellence
Ensure that every DC delivers consistent, reliable and efficient operations with strong service levels.
2. Warehouse Engineering
Design and optimise warehouses based on data, material characteristics, storage requirements, throughput and future business needs.
3. Technology Excellence
Ensure effective utilisation of SAP and WMS to control, monitor and improve warehouse operations.
4. Productivity & Cost Optimisation
Continuously improve manpower productivity, space utilisation, equipment productivity, throughput and cost efficiency.
5. Project Implementation
Successfully design, implement, launch and stabilise new warehouses and logistics projects.
6. Leadership
Build a strong team of DC Managers and operational leaders capable of independently managing high-volume operations while maintaining consistent national standards.
4. ORGANISATIONAL RESPONSIBILITY The National Logistics Manager will operate at a national level and will have direct responsibility for the performance of multiple Distribution Centres.
The National Logistics Manager will therefore be responsible for establishing a clear management framework covering:
- Operational KPIs
- Productivity benchmarks
- Cost benchmarks
- Inventory controls
- Process standards
- Technology utilisation
- Safety standards
- Customer service standards
- Review mechanisms
- Corrective-action processes
- Continuous improvement
The incumbent must ensure that DC Managers do not operate as independent silos. The objective is to create a common national operating philosophy, supported by standard processes and measurable performance standards.
5. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
A. NATIONAL DISTRIBUTION CENTRE OPERATIONS The National Logistics Manager will have overall responsibility for the operational performance of all Distribution Centres under his/her control.
Responsibilities will include

- Establish common operating standards across all locations.

- Ensure optimum utilisation of available warehouse space.
- Monitor manpower deployment and productivity.
- Monitor material handling equipment utilisation.
- Review inbound and outbound performance.
- Monitor dock utilisation and vehicle turnaround time.
- Ensure proper coordination between warehouse and transportation operations.

- Establish mechanisms for early identification of operational exceptions.
- Ensure that operational escalations are resolved within defined timelines.
- Conduct periodic operational audits across locations.
- Identify best practices from individual DCs and replicate them across the network.
- Establish a culture of operational discipline and accountability.
The National Logistics Manager should not limit performance review to headline numbers. The incumbent should be capable of drilling down from a national KPI into:

- Process-level performance
- SKU-level issues
- Manpower productivity
- Equipment utilisation
- Picking productivity
- Dock productivity
