Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Machine Shop Supervisor to supervise day-to-day machining operations, manpower and production activities. The candidate will be responsible for planning machining work, coordinating CNC/VMC/turning and conventional machining operations, ensuring component quality and maintaining machine utilization and production records.

Key Responsibilities

- Supervise daily machine shop activities and manpower.

- Allocate operators and machinists according to production requirements and machine availability.

- Plan daily machining activities based on production schedules and priorities.

- Ensure timely completion of machining jobs as per production targets.

- Supervise CNC, VMC, CNC Turning and conventional machining operations.

- Ensure machines are operated according to approved processes and work instructions.

- Read and interpret engineering and machining drawings.

- Ensure components are manufactured according to required dimensions, tolerances and specifications.

- Monitor first-piece inspection and in-process quality checks.

- Monitor component dimensions using appropriate measuring instruments.

- Coordinate with the Quality Department regarding inspection and rejection issues.

- Identify machining defects and take corrective action to reduce rejection and rework.

- Manage availability and proper use of cutting tools, fixtures, inserts and consumables.

- Monitor tool wear and arrange timely tool replacement.

- Coordinate with Production Planning, Quality, Maintenance and Stores departments.

- Monitor machine breakdowns and coordinate with the maintenance team for quick resolution.

- Ensure optimum machine utilization and productivity.

- Maintain daily production, machine utilization, rejection and other relevant records.

- Track production progress and report delays or bottlenecks to the Production Manager.





- Ensure proper housekeeping and implementation of 5S in the machine shop.

- Ensure all operators follow prescribed safety procedures and PPE requirements.

- Train and guide operators/machinists regarding work methods, quality and safety requirements.

- Monitor manpower productivity and maintain discipline on the shop floor.

- Identify process improvement opportunities to improve productivity and reduce wastage.

Required Skills

- Strong knowledge of CNC / VMC machining operations.

- Knowledge of CNC Turning and conventional machining.

- Valuable understanding of machining processes and production methods.

- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

- Knowledge of dimensions, tolerances and basic GD&T;.

- Good knowledge of cutting tools, inserts, fixtures and machining consumables.

- Hands-on knowledge of Vernier Caliper, Micrometer, Height Gauge and other measuring instruments.

- Strong manpower handling and shop-floor supervision skills.

- Knowledge of production planning and machine utilization.

- Good problem-solving and troubleshooting ability.

- Knowledge of 5S, quality and industrial safety practices.

- Good coordination and communication skills.

Preferred Candidate

- ITI / Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical or Production Engineering.

- 3–7 years of relevant experience in a machine shop/manufacturing environment.

- Candidates with hands-on experience in CNC/VMC and turning operations will be preferred.

- Experience in handling machinists/operators and independently managing a machine shop will be an advantage.
