Role & responsibilities
Role Purpose The Delivery Account Manager is responsible for the end-to-end delivery, customer satisfaction, financial performance, and strategic growth of assigned automotive engineering-services accounts.
The role serves as the primary bridge between the customer and internal delivery teams, ensuring that engineering programs are delivered on time, within budget, at the expected quality level, and in line with agreed scope, milestones, and service-level commitments. The position combines account governance, delivery leadership, stakeholder management, program oversight, team development, and identification of growth opportunities within existing accounts.
The ideal candidate brings strong experience in automotive product development or engineering services, along with the ability to manage complex customer relationships across technical, commercial, and operational stakeholders. Key Responsibilities
Account and Customer Management
- Serve as the primary delivery contact for assigned automotive OEM, Tier-1, Tier-2, or mobility customer accounts.
- Build trusted relationships with customer stakeholders across engineering, program management, purchasing, quality, manufacturing, and leadership functions.
- Understand the customers product roadmap, engineering priorities, technical challenges, delivery expectations, and upcoming business opportunities.
- Act as the voice of the customer within the organization, translating requirements into clear delivery plans and actions.
- Conduct regular customer governance meetings, including weekly delivery reviews, monthly operational reviews, and quarterly business reviews.
- Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction through proactive communication, transparent reporting, and timely issue resolution.
- Manage customer escalations with urgency, ownership, structured root-cause analysis, and effective corrective-action plans.
Delivery and Program Governance
- Lead end-to-end delivery for multiple automotive engineering programs, work packages, or managed-services engagements.
- Ensure delivery against agreed scope, timelines, cost, quality, resource plans, milestones, and contractual commitments.
- Establish and track delivery KPIs, including schedule adherence, milestone achievement, engineering quality, defect leakage, resource utilization, productivity, customer satisfaction, and financial performance.
- Review project plans, work-breakdown structures, resource plans, deliverables, risks, dependencies, and change requests with project and technical leads.
- Monitor project health and provide timely status reporting to customer and internal leadership.
- Identify delivery risks early and drive mitigation plans in coordination with engineering, program management, quality, and functional leaders.
- Lead resolution of cross-functional issues affecting delivery, including technical dependencies, requirements changes, capacity constraints, quality concerns, and customer approvals.
- Ensure effective project closure,
lessons learned, knowledge capture, and implementation of improvement actions.
Engineering and Automotive Domain Leadership
- Provide functional oversight for automotive engineering-services programs in one or more domains such as:
- Vehicle engineering and integration
- Body-in-white, closures, trim, seating, and interiors
- Chassis, suspension, steering, braking, and dynamics
- Powertrain, electrification, battery, and thermal systems
- Electrical and electronics architecture
- Embedded software, AUTOSAR, diagnostics, and connected vehicles
- ADAS, autonomous-driving features, and validation
- CAE, CFD, durability, crash, and simulation
- Manufacturing engineering, tooling, and industrialization
- Testing, validation, homologation, and certification
- Ensure teams follow applicable customer processes, automotive engineering standards, quality systems, and development methodologies.
- Support delivery compliance with customer-specific processes and relevant frameworks such as APQP, PPAP, FMEA, GD&T;, DFMEA/PFMEA, ASPICE, ISO 26262, ISO/SAE 21434, and functional-safety or cybersecurity practices, where relevant to the engagement.
- Promote robust engineering reviews, design-quality practices, traceability, configuration management, and documentation discipline.
Automotive account leadership frequently spans OEM and Tier customer relationships, cross-functional engineering coordination, program launches, and the management of commercial and delivery issues through the program lifecycle.lamwork+2
Financial and Commercial Management
- Own account-level delivery financials, including revenue, gross margin, cost, billing, collections support, utilization, and forecast accuracy.
- Develop and maintain account plans, delivery forecasts, capacity plans, and budget-versus-actual performance.
- Partner with sales and business-development teams to identify, qualify, and pursue opportunities within assigned accounts.
- Support preparation of proposals, statements of work, effort estimates, rate cards, resource plans, and commercial presentations.
- Manage scope changes, change requests, effort variations, and commercial approvals in accordance with contractual and internal governance requirements.
- Track purchase orders, invoicing milestones, timesheet approvals, billing inputs, receivables, and potential revenue leakage.
- Support account-growth initiatives through cross-selling, upselling, new service offerings, managed-services conversion, and expansion into additional engineering domains.
People and Resource Management
- Lead and mentor project managers, engineering leads, and delivery teams assigned to the account.
- Ensure appropriate staffing, onboarding, capability alignment, utilization, succession planning, and employee engagement.
- Collaborate with resource management and functional leaders to address skill gaps, hiring needs, attrition risks, and ramp-up or ramp-down requirements.
- Define competency-development plans aligned with customer technology needs and future account-growth priorities.
- Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, customer focus, quality, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide coaching to delivery leaders and team members.
Process Excellence and Continuous Improvement
- Drive delivery excellence through standardization, automation, reusable assets, productivity initiatives, and lessons learned.
- Establish and improve account-level dashboards, governance processes, escalation mechanisms, and risk-management practices.
- Lead root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions for recurring delivery, quality, or customer-satisfaction issues.
- Encourage the use of digital engineering tools, automation, AI-enabled workflows, and knowledge-management practices where appropriate.
- Ensure adherence to internal policies, information-security requirements, confidentiality obligations, and customer data-protection expectations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, Industrial, or a related engineering discipline.
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Management, or Business Administration is preferred.
- Typically 10–15+ years of experience in automotive engineering, product development, engineering services, program management, or technical account management.
- Minimum 4–6 years of experience in delivery management, account management, program leadership, or customer-facing engineering leadership.
- Demonstrated experience managing automotive OEM, Tier-1, or mobility customer engagements.
- Experience managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams, multiple projects, or large managed-services engagements.
- Strong understanding of automotive product-development lifecycles, from concept and requirements through design, validation, launch, and post-launch support.
- Proven responsibility for delivery KPIs, financial performance, customer satisfaction, and team performance.
Project-management certification such as PMP, PRINCE2, Agile/Scrum, or equivalent is preferred Preferred candidate profile The successful candidate will be a customer-focused delivery leader who can speak confidently with both senior customer executives and technical engineering teams. They will be able to convert business expectations into executable delivery plans, manage ambiguity and escalation calmly, and balance customer satisfaction with commercial discipline.
