About SD IndustriesSD Industries is an AISC-certified building fabricator with a 40,000 SF fabrication facility in Conroe, TX. We fabricate architectural metals and stainless, light and medium structural steel, ADA handrails, guardrails and staircases, platforms, catwalks and mezzanines, pipe supports, cable trays and cabinets, and production runs of embeds, anchor bolts and shim plates. Our in-house engineering team takes projects from IFC drawings through fabrication and installation drawings, and our traveling crews install nationwide.
The RoleWe are hiring a Production Manager to own the daily production schedule for the Conroe shop and coordinate work across cutting, forming, welding, painting, and shipping. This is a fully virtual position: you will run the shop plan through our ERP, daily production calls, and direct coordination with shop leads, engineering, supply chain, quality, and installation crews. You start at 6:00 AM Central so the floor has a locked, sequenced plan before the first shift begins.
We need someone who has actually worked with the equipment we run, not just scheduled around it. You should be able to look at a fab drawing and know how it moves through a flat laser, tube laser, bandsaw, press brake, and weld bay, where the bottleneck will be, and how to sequence it.
What You'll Do• Build and maintain the master production schedule across cutting, forming, welding/assembly, paint, and shipping
- Sequence work through the 20 kW flat laser, 6 kW tube laser with autoloader, gang bandsaw, ironworkers, 350-ton press brake, and MIG/TIG/stick/laser welding stations to maximize machine utilization
- Coordinate with engineering on drawing release dates so shop packages, nesting files, and cut lists are ready before material hits the floor
- Work with supply chain on material arrival, MTR documentation, and vendor lead times; flag shortages before they stop a cell
- Plan and run production campaigns for repeat parts (shim plates, embeds, cable trays, cabinets) once tooling is set
- Track jobs on both AISC and standard project tracks and schedule required inspections and certifications into the plan
- Coordinate shipping and field-install timing, including the ADA rail workflow (sleeves for pour → field measure → fabricate → install)
- Run the daily production meeting, publish status against schedule, and escalate risks to leadership early
- Maintain labor loading, overtime forecasts, and capacity models; report on-time delivery, throughput, and shop-hour variance weekly
Required Qualifications• Bachelor of Engineering in Industrial or Production Engineering
- Minimum 5 years of production scheduling and coordination experience in miscellaneous metals fabrication (structural steel, architectural metals, rails, stairs, platforms, or similar)
- Hands-on working experience with the following equipment:
– Flat plate laser cutting (high-power fiber laser, thick carbon steel with oxygen assist)
– Tube / structural laser cutting with autoloader (beams, channels, pipe, bevel cutting)
– Gang bandsaw with dual mitering
– Hydraulic ironworkers
– CNC press brake forming (300+ ton class)
– MIG, TIG, and stick welding processes; laser welding for architectural finish work is a plus
- Ability to read structural and architectural fabrication drawings and cut lists
- Experience scheduling in an ERP/MRP system and reporting on on-time delivery and shop-hour metrics
- Working knowledge of AISC fabrication requirements, welder certification tracking, and material traceability (MTRs)
- Available and online from 6:00 AM US Central every workday (5:30 PM IST / 4:30 PM IST during daylight time), with a reliable home office setup and stable internet
- Solid written and spoken English; comfortable running video calls with US-based shop leads, engineers, and customers
Preferred Qualifications• Experience scheduling in-house paint and shipping operations
- Familiarity with field installation planning, including transit/rail or public-infrastructure projects
- Experience coordinating overseas or long-lead vendor material
- Familiarity with nesting software and tube-laser programming workflows
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive compensation package, PTO policy conveyed upon selection
