Lead Design Engineer – OpenBMC Firmware
Location/Division: Intelligent Infrastructure, Bengaluru, India
How will you make an impact?
As an OpenBMC Firmware Lead Engineer, you will play a critical role in the design, development, debugging, and verification of OpenBMC firmware solutions for server and storage platforms. You will provide technical leadership across the firmware development lifecycle, from requirements definition and architecture design to implementation, validation, and release.
This position requires a self-motivated engineering leader who can collaborate effectively with customers, cross-functional teams, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality firmware solutions. The successful candidate will drive technical excellence, mentor engineers, mitigate project risks, and ensure timely execution of development milestones.
As an OpenBMC Firmware Lead Engineer, you will be expected to
- Lead OpenBMC firmware design, development, integration, and debugging activities.
- Define firmware requirements, architecture, and implementation strategies.
- Collaborate with project managers, firmware managers, architects, and stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
- Drive technical planning, reviews, and risk mitigation activities.
- Develop and execute software verification strategies to ensure product stability and quality.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and promote engineering best practices.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to firmware development processes and quality.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to meet project objectives and release schedules.
In Your Role You Will
- Support project estimation activities during the RFI/RFQ phase.
- Stay current with industry technologies and development methodologies.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications and implementation details.
- Work with firmware managers, project managers, and development teams to gather requirements and define solutions.
- Design new software features and enhance existing firmware functionality.
- Lead software architecture and design activities based on functional requirements.
- Develop and execute firmware validation and verification plans.
- Investigate, prioritize, and resolve software defects at both module and system levels.
- Lead technical risk identification and mitigation efforts.
- Drive detailed technical planning and execution activities.
- Act as the technical leader for firmware development teams.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers in technical and professional development.
- Promote software process improvements and quality initiatives.
- Demonstrate solid ownership, accountability, and execution excellence.
- Ensure compliance with development processes, security policies, and quality standards.
