The Librarian will be responsible for the effective management and development of the school library, ensuring that students and teachers have easy access to appropriate reading and learning resources. The role also involves promoting a culture of reading among students and maintaining an organised, welcoming and engaging library setting.
Key Responsibilities
Library Management
Manage the day-to-day functioning of the school library.
Maintain and organise books, reference materials, periodicals and other learning resources.
Maintain proper records of books issued, returned, lost or damaged.
Ensure systematic classification, cataloguing and shelving of books.
Regularly update the library inventory and identify books/resources that need to be added or replaced.
Ensure the library remains clean, organised and student-friendly.
Student Support & Reading Culture
Assist students in selecting age-appropriate books based on their interests and reading levels.
Encourage students to develop regular reading habits.
Conduct library orientation sessions for students.
Organise reading activities, storytelling sessions,
book discussions, book reviews and other library-related activities.
Promote reading programmes and initiatives across different grades.
Maintain discipline and ensure appropriate behaviour in the library.
Teacher & Academic Support
Assist teachers in locating books and reference material required for classroom learning.
Coordinate with teachers to support reading and research-based activities.
Recommend relevant books and resources aligned with students' learning needs.
Support school events, exhibitions and academic activities related to books and reading.
Records & Administration
Maintain accurate library records and documentation.
Monitor book circulation and follow up on overdue books.
Prepare periodic reports on library usage, circulation and requirements.
Ensure proper handling and preservation of library resources.
