Job Description – Geotechnical Engineer

A Geotechnical Engineer is responsible for investigating soil and rock conditions and providing engineering recommendations for the secure and economical design and construction of foundations, slopes, retaining structures, tunnels, dams, roads, and other civil infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

- Site Investigation
- Plan and supervise geotechnical site investigations.
- Conduct and monitor boreholes, trial pits, SPT, CPT and other field investigations.
- Study soil and rock strata, groundwater conditions and geological features.
- Soil & Rock Testing
- Coordinate laboratory and field testing of soil and rock.
- Review test results such as grain-size distribution, Atterberg limits, shear strength, permeability, compaction and rock strength.
- Geotechnical Analysis & Design
- Perform bearing-capacity and settlement calculations.
- Design and assess shallow and deep foundations.
- Carry out slope stability and excavation stability analyses.
- Design retaining walls, soil reinforcement and ground-improvement systems.
- Evaluate rock slopes, rock masses, foundations and underground structures.
- Construction Support
- Monitor excavation, foundation preparation, grouting, rock bolting,



shotcrete and other geotechnical works.
- Verify site conditions against design assumptions.
- Provide technical solutions for unexpected soil or rock conditions.
- Inspect and approve foundation strata before construction proceeds.
- Project Documentation
- Prepare geotechnical investigation reports and technical reports.
- Review drawings, specifications, method statements and test reports.
- Maintain records of boreholes, excavation profiles, geological mapping and field observations.
- Quality & Safety
- Ensure geotechnical works comply with project specifications, applicable IS codes and safety requirements.
- Identify potential risks such as landslides, settlement, seepage, erosion and unstable excavations.
- Coordinate with structural, civil, geological and construction teams.

Required Qualifications

- B.Tech/B.E. in Civil Engineering with specialization/experience in Geotechnical Engineering, or
- M.Tech/M.E. in Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
- Experience in construction, infrastructure, tunnelling, hydro projects, foundations or slope stabilization is advantageous.

Pay: ₹15,540.18 - ₹46,140.66 per month
