Design Engineer – Medical Devices

Department: R&D; – Medical Devices
n
Key Responsibilities
n
1. Product Design & Development
n
•Design and develop mechanical components, sub-assemblies, and complete assemblies for
n
medical devices.
n
•Create 3D CAD models, assemblies, detailed manufacturing drawings, BOMs, and engineering
n
documentation using SolidWorks, CATIA, or AutoCAD.
n
•Ensure designs meet functional, ergonomic, aesthetic, reliability, and durability requirements.
n
2. Plastic Injection Molded Component Design
n
n
- Design and develop plastic injection molded components for medical devices.
n
- Define critical design parameters including: Wall thickness, Draft angles, Ribs and bosses,
n
n
Snap-fit mechanisms, Parting lines, Gate locations.
n
n
- Participate in mold design reviews and tooling trials (T0, T1, T2).
n
- Analyze and resolve molding issues such as: Sink marks, Warpage, Shrinkage, Flow marks,
n
n
Cosmetic defects.
n
3. Precision Metal Parts Design
n
•Design metal components utilizing: CNC machining, Turning, Milling, Sheet metal fabrication,
n
Casting processes.
n
•Select appropriate materials including: Stainless Steel (SS304 / SS316), Aluminum alloys,
n
Brass, Titanium and other engineering metals.
n
•Define surface finishing requirements such as: Anodizing, Passivation, Powder coating,
n
Polishing, Electropolishing.
n
4. Medical Device Enclosure & Housing
n
•Design functional and aesthetic enclosures, housings, and external assemblies for medical
n
devices.
n
•Consider thermal management, cable routing, serviceability, user accessibility, and product
n
safety requirements.
n
•Integrate mechanical designs with electronics, sensors, motors, actuators, and other
n
subsystems
n
5. Prototyping, Testing & Validation
n
•Support rapid prototyping using CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, and 3D printing
n
technologies.
n
n
- Conduct fit, form, and functional evaluations of prototypes.
n
- Participate in Design Verification (DV) and Design Validation (DVT) activities.
n
- Analyze test results and implement design modifications where necessary.
n
n
6. Cross-Functional Collaboration
n
n
- Collaborate with:
n
- Quality Assurance
n
- Regulatory Affairs
n
- Supply Chain teams
n
- Support design transfer activities from R&D; to production.
n
- Coordinate with suppliers, toolmakers, and contract manufacturers.
n
n
7. Documentation & Regulatory Compliance
n
n
- Documentation & Regulatory Compliance
n
- Prepare and maintain engineering documentation including:
n
- Design drawings
n
- Specifications
n
- BOMs
n
- Design history records
n
- Revision control documents
n
n
Qualifications & Requirements
n
•B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial
n
Design, or related disciplines.
n
•Diploma holders with relevant experience may also be considered.
n
Experience
n
n
- P1–2 years of experience in mechanical product design and development. Experience in:
n
- Medical Devices

- Healthcare Equipment
n
- Precision Engineering Products
n
- Electromechanical Systems
n
- Industrial Product Design
n
- Experience with plastic molded and precision metal components is mandatory.
n
