Gurugram
Growth & Customer Development Associate
Location: Gurugram — primarily around Sector 48 / Sohna Road, with a mix of shared-office, field and remote work depending on the activity
Stage: Early-stage / pilot phase
Role type: Full-time, initial trial/probation structure
Reports to: Founder
About SkillsNCR
SkillsNCR is at the very beginning of its journey.
We are not an established company with a large team, mature processes or predictable revenue yet. We are currently testing our offerings, speaking with customers, generating leads, learning what works and building our operating model.
Our initial focus is on:
- School / Parent learning needs
- Graduate / WorkReady / career-readiness programmes
- Gurugram as our first market
Our philosophy is simple: Diagnosis before prescription.
We want to first understand what a student, parent or graduate actually needs before recommending a programme or solution.
This role is for someone who wants to help build that journey from the beginning.
Why We Are Hiring
Right now, one of our biggest challenges is building a consistent flow of relevant customer conversations.
The founder cannot simultaneously research prospects, generate leads, follow up enquiries, speak to customers, test new acquisition ideas and build the company.
We therefore need someone who can help us answer:
Where can we find the right customers? How do we reach them? What are they actually looking for? And which acquisition approaches are working?
This is not purely a marketing job.
It is not purely a sales job.
It is a combination of growth, customer development, lead generation, outreach and execution.
What You Will Do
You will work closely with the founder to identify and test different ways of generating qualified opportunities.
Your work may include
Lead Generation & Research
Research and identify potential
- Parents and parent communities
- Residential societies
- Schools and education communities
- Colleges
- Training & placement officers
- Faculty members
- Student communities
- Graduate communities
- Referral partners
- Local organisations and potential collaborators
Build structured prospect lists with practical contact information and clear priorities. The expectation is not simply to collect names.
You should be able to explain:
Why should we contact this person or organisation?
Outreach & Customer Conversations
Reach out through channels such as:
- Phone
- WhatsApp
- Email
- LinkedIn
- Community outreach
- Local field visits
Speak professionally with prospective students, parents and partners. Understand what they actually need rather than immediately trying to sell something.
Capture recurring questions, objections, concerns and customer language.
Existing Lead Follow-Up
SkillsNCR already receives some enquiries.
You will help ensure that leads do not simply remain inside spreadsheets.
You will:
- contact leads;
- understand their requirement;
- qualify whether there is a genuine fit;
- follow up;
- schedule appropriate conversations with the founder;
- maintain clear next actions.
Growth Experiments We want someone who can think as well as execute.
For example
“Should we try residential societies?”
“Can colleges become an acquisition channel?”
“Are parents responding more to accountability than tuition?”
“Would an open house generate better conversations?”
You should be comfortable suggesting small experiments — but also executing them.
Ideas without execution are not enough.
Market Learning
One of your most significant responsibilities will be bringing information back from the market.
We want to learn
- Why did someone enquire?
- What problem are they actually trying to solve?
- What alternatives are they considering?
- What prevents them from buying?
- Which messages create interest?
- Which lead sources produce serious conversations?
- What are people willing to pay for?
- Where are we confusing customers?
Good customer insight is as valuable to us as generating a lead. Pipeline & Follow-Up Discipline
You will maintain simple lead records so every genuine opportunity has:
- source;
- current stage;
- latest conversation;
- relevant notes;
- next action;
- next-action date;
- owner.
We do not want complicated corporate CRM processes. We do want accountability.
What This Role Is NOT
This is not a traditional corporate job.
You will not have a large team working underneath you.
You will not receive perfectly documented processes for every task.
You may sometimes need to figure out how to approach something with the founder.
You may research prospects in the morning, speak with leads in the afternoon and visit a Gurugram society or college on another day.
You will also not initially have authority to independently decide:
- company strategy;
- pricing;
- discounts;
- advertising budgets;
- major partnerships;
- final marketing claims;
- guarantees or customer commitments.
Major commercial and strategic decisions remain with the founder. Who We Are Looking For
We care much more about attitude, judgement and execution than impressive job titles.
You may be an early-career professional or someone with a few years of relevant experience.
You should be someone who:
- is comfortable working directly with a founder;
- enjoys speaking with people;
- can professionally call people you have never met;
- is curious about why customers behave the way they do;
- can research independently;
- follows up without needing repeated reminders;
- keeps commitments;
- communicates clearly;
- can use Google Sheets, Docs and basic online tools;
- can use AI tools intelligently for research and productivity;
- is comfortable operating without excessive structure;
- is willing to do both desk work and field work;
- takes ownership when something is assigned.
English and Hindi communication ability will be useful for customer conversations in Gurugram.
The Type of Person Who May Enjoy This Role
You might enjoy this opportunity if your instinct is:
“Give me the problem. I will figure out how to get started.”
rather than:
“Please give me the complete SOP first.”
We are looking for someone who can brainstorm with us but who is equally willing to open the laptop, build the list, make the call, visit the location and follow through.
What Success Looks Like
We will not evaluate you simply on the number of calls made or leads collected.
We will look at outcomes such as:
- relevant prospects identified;
- qualified customer conversations created;
- existing enquiries followed up properly;
- consultations or meetings actually attended;
- useful acquisition channels discovered;
- customer insights captured;
- accuracy of lead records;
- reliability of follow-up;
- quality of judgement;
- increasing ability to operate independently.
Working With the Founder
During the initial phase, you will work very closely with the founder.
The founder will continue to handle important consultations, major partnerships and significant commercial conversations.
Your job will be to help create, qualify and progress the opportunities around those conversations.
As the company develops, the role can expand based on capability and business need.
Important: Please Understand Our Stage Before Applying
SkillsNCR is currently in the pilot / validation stage.
That means
- the company is still being built;
- processes will evolve;
- some experiments will fail;
- priorities can change based on customer evidence;
- the team is currently very small;
- there is less structure than an established organisation;
- the role may evolve as we discover what works.
We want to be transparent about this upfront. If you are primarily looking for the stability, hierarchy, infrastructure and predictability of an established organisation, this may not be the right opportunity.
If you enjoy building, learning, taking ownership and seeing your work directly influence a young company, you may enjoy it.
Hiring Process
Round 1 — Virtual conversation A short discussion to understand your communication, experience, expectations and comfort with an early-stage environment.
Round 2 — Practical assignment A short real-world exercise.
For example, you may be asked to identify a small set of relevant Gurugram prospects, prioritise them, suggest an outreach approach and explain your reasoning.
We will evaluate the quality of your thinking and research rather than how many rows you can generate.
Round 3 — In-person founder meeting
Meet the founder in Gurugram to discuss the role, working style, expectations and mutual fit.
Before You Apply
Please apply only if you are comfortable joining a company that is genuinely at the beginning.
In your application, tell us:
- where you are currently based;
- your availability;
- your relevant experience;
- one example where you independently generated an opportunity, solved a problem, organised something or got an outcome without being constantly supervised;
- why an early-stage role interests you.
We prefer a specific real example over a generic cover letter.
SkillsNCR is looking for its early team — not simply filling a vacancy.
