Teen Auditions for Performance Lab: URINETOWN at People’s Light

People’s Light will hold Teen Performance Lab auditions for our 2026-2027 Season production of Urinetown, directed by Andrew Watring, on Saturday, September 19th.

This program is a hybrid experience, combining pre-professional training for a selective ensemble of teen theatre students which is limited to 8 participants, alongside rehearsal and performance in a professional production.

Master classes will begin the week of May 3rd, with two sessions per week (one weekday, one weekend) used to explore advanced musical theatre and acting ensemble topics. When rehearsals begin, teen actors will learn select roles in Urinetown. The teen actors will be integrated fully into the skilled rehearsal process, with attendance expected 5-6 days/week through Tech rehearsals, Previews, and Opening. Each teen track will be double-cast, and will perform 3-4 times per week.

Students will have a core of professional teaching artists as their mentors,



as well as the People’s Light artistic staff and guest artists working on our production of Urinetown. Our goal is to develop young artists in many dimensions through exposure to professional training and individualized attention.

Advanced Performance Lab classes begin: Week of May 3, 2027:

First rehearsal: June 1, 2027

Tech begins: June 29, 2027

First preview: July 7, 2027

Opening: July 11, 2027

Closing: August 15, 2027

Tuition for Performance Lab: URINETOWN is $900.00.

- Need-based full and partial scholarships are available by application. You may complete a scholarship application online.
- All scholarship applications should be submitted by 5pm on Sept 15 in time for for committee review
- All members of Performance Lab will be paid a $25 stipend for each of their performances.
