Job Profile: Fabric In-Charge
A Fabric In-Charge is responsible for managing fabric receipt, storage, inspection, inventory, issuance, and coordination with production in a garment/textile manufacturing unit.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive fabrics from suppliers and verify quantity, quality, shade, width, GSM, and other specifications.
- Coordinate fabric inspection and identify defects such as holes, stains, shade variation, weaving/knitting defects, etc.
- Maintain proper fabric inventory and stock records.
- Ensure fabrics are stored properly according to style, color, lot, shade, composition, and buyer requirements.
- Control fabric movement from the warehouse to cutting/production.
- Issue fabric against approved requisitions and maintain proper documentation.
- Monitor fabric consumption and minimize fabric wastage, shortage, and excess stock.
- Coordinate with Merchandising, PPC, Cutting, Production, Quality, Purchase, and Stores departments.
- Track fabric requirements and ensure materials are available as per the production plan.
- Maintain roll-wise records, lot numbers, shade bands, and fabric test reports.
- Support fabric relaxation, spreading, and cutting activities where applicable.
- Investigate fabric shortages, quality problems, and shade issues and coordinate corrective action.
- Prepare daily/weekly reports on fabric stock, receipts, issues, consumption, wastage, and pending requirements.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, buyer standards, safety requirements, and housekeeping practices.
- Lead and supervise fabric-store staff and allocate daily work.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Diploma/Degree in Textile, Garment Technology, Apparel Production, or a related field.
- Experience in fabric stores, fabric inspection, cutting, or garment manufacturing.
- Good knowledge of different fabric types, GSM, width, shrinkage, shade/lot management, and fabric defects.
- Strong inventory and documentation skills.
- Knowledge of ERP/software and MS Excel is advantageous.
- Valuable communication and team-management skills.
- Ability to work under production deadlines.
