Position Overview
Ralph Lauren is seeking an exceptional Principal Engineer to lead the evolution of our Commerce Platform capabilities, with a strong focus on Salesforce Commerce Cloud (SFCC) and the transition toward modern Composable Commerce architecture.
This strategic technical leadership role reporting to senior engineering leadership. The Principal Engineer will serve as the technical visionary and hands-on architect, shaping the long-term technology roadmap while actively guiding globally distributed engineering teams through complex, high-impact commerce initiatives.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned technologist and people leader who combines deep commerce platform expertise, architectural thinking, delivery excellence, and a passion for mentoring high-performing teams across geographies. You will play a pivotal role in driving Ralph Lauren's next-generation commerce capabilities, ensuring scalability, performance, and alignment with business goals across our global digital ecosystem.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Technical Vision & Strategic Architecture
- Define and drive the long-term technology roadmap for Ralph Lauren's commerce platform, aligning with enterprise architecture and business goals.
- Act as chief technical advisor and solution architect for large-scale commerce platform initiatives.
- Lead the adoption of Composable Commerce principles, integrating headless frameworks, microservices, APIs, and modern frontend technologies.
- Champion engineering excellence through establishment of design patterns, architectural standards, and technical best practices.
- Research and evaluate emerging technologies to maintain Ralph Lauren's competitive edge in digital commerce innovation.
Complex Problem Solving & Technical Leadership
- Tackle high-scope, ambiguous technical challenges spanning multiple teams, platforms, and business domains.
- Provide hands-on technical guidance on SFCC platform development, composable commerce architecture, headless frontend frameworks, and backend API design.
- Break down complex problems into manageable, actionable initiatives that drive measurable outcomes.
- Serve as technical risk manager, proactively identifying and mitigating delivery risks, technical debt, and architectural constraints.
Engineering Excellence & Capability Building
- Mentor and grow senior and staff engineers across globally distributed teams, building deep technical expertise in frontend, backend, API development, and composable commerce.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning, promoting up-to-date engineering practices including TDD, CI/CD pipelines, code reviews, and automated testing.
- Drive adoption of DevOps and release governance frameworks to improve development velocity, code quality, and engineering productivity.
- Build and scale engineering capabilities across distributed teams in multiple time zones, ensuring consistent standards and collaborative ways of working.
Delivery & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Lead end-to-end delivery of SFCC-based commerce platform initiatives, ensuring predictable, high-quality execution.
- Oversee and guide a global commerce engineering team across frontend, backend, QA/performance, analytics, and release management disciplines.
- Partner with Product Managers, Engineering Leaders, Architects, and Business Stakeholders across regions to define project scopes, priorities, timelines, and budgets.
- Provide regular delivery updates, risk assessments, and progress reports to leadership, ensuring transparency and alignment.
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to executive leadership, translating complex technical concepts into business value.
Standards, Innovation & Organizational Impact
- Establish and enforce engineering best practices, coding standards, and architectural patterns across the commerce platform organization.
- Drive performance optimization, scalability, and security initiatives to ensure enterprise-grade standards.
- Lead evaluation and adoption of composable commerce solutions, including API-first platforms, headless CMS, modern frontend frameworks, and cloud-native data pipelines.
- Influence organizational-wide technical strategy, ensuring Ralph Lauren's commerce technology remains modern, scalable, and future-ready.
Experience, Skills, and Knowledge
- 12+ years of software/systems engineering experience, with a proven track record as a senior or staff engineer in complex, enterprise environments.
- 5+ years of experience managing, mentoring, and leading engineering teams in globally distributed, multi-timezone environments.
- Deep expertise in Salesforce Commerce Cloud (SFCC) development, including SFRA, ISML, Controllers, Pipelines, and Commerce Cloud APIs.
- Solid full-stack development experience across modern frontend and backend technologies.
- Proven experience in solution architecture and technical design, delivering large-scale, high-impact commerce platform initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in cross-functional, globally distributed, matrixed environments, collaborating seamlessly across cultures and time zones.
Technical Skills
Composable Commerce & Infrastructure
- Akamai Routing Configuration as Code: Edge computing, CDN configuration,
and infrastructure-as-code for global content delivery optimization.
- Cloud Data Pipelines: Cloud-based data pipelines, ETL processes, and real-time data synchronization using distributed database platforms.
- CMS Pipelines/Webhooks: Headless CMS architectures, webhook-based event-driven integrations, and content delivery pipelines.
- CI/CD: Continuous integration/deployment pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and release management processes.
Headless & Frontend Development
- Next.js (React) Expertise: Advanced proficiency in Next.js, React, SSR, SSG, and modern JavaScript/TypeScript.
- DXP Design & Storybook: Digital Experience Platform design with component-driven development and Storybook.
- SFCC ISML & Frontend: SFCC frontend development, ISML templating, SFRA customization, and responsive web design.
- Database Data Access: Modern database API integration, data access patterns, and frontend data retrieval optimization.
- CMS Data Modeling: Headless CMS data modeling, content architecture, and schema design.
- Frontend Integrations SME: Subject matter expertise in integrating frontend applications with third-party services and APIs.
SFCC & Backend Development
- SFCC Backend: SFCC backend development, Business Manager configuration, custom cartridges, jobs, hooks, and services framework.
- APIs (SFCC & Next-Gen): RESTful APIs, GraphQL, SFCC OCAPI, and modern API architectures for composable commerce.
- Database Modeling: Modern database data modeling, schema design, and optimization for high-performance commerce applications.
- Cloud ETL: Cloud-based ETL processes for data integration across commerce, analytics, and enterprise systems.
- Core Integrations SME (Adyen, Forter): Subject matter expertise in payment gateway integration (Adyen) and fraud detection/prevention (Forter).
Additional Capabilities
- Systems design, software architecture, and commerce platform expertise with deep knowledge of digital commerce ecosystems.
- Composable Commerce principles: Headless architecture, API-first design, microservices, and MACH architecture.

Education
