About Us
JMSC POS is a point-of-sale and inventory management platform serving 800–1,000 convenience stores, liquor stores, grocery stores, tobacco shops, and gas stations across the United States.
Our infrastructure runs entirely on AWS and is managed as code using Terraform. We are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to take a key role in maintaining, improving, and scaling our production infrastructure while working closely with our CTO.
Job Responsibilities
- Design, manage, and maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform across a multi-account AWS Organization, including Dev, QA, UAT, Production, Sandbox, and DevOps environments.
- Manage and optimize containerized services running on Amazon ECS Fargate, including deployments, scaling, performance, and troubleshooting.
- Manage and support Amazon RDS (MySQL) environments, including parameter groups, backups, monitoring, performance, and secret rotation using AWS Secrets Manager.
- Design and maintain AWS VPC networking, including subnets, security groups, NAT gateways, load balancers, routing, and network security.
- Monitor and maintain infrastructure reliability using Amazon CloudWatch, including alarms, logs, dashboards, and operational monitoring.
- Design, maintain, and improve CI/CD pipelines, deployment workflows, and Amazon ECR image management.
- Develop, review, refactor, and maintain reusable Terraform modules and establish Infrastructure as Code best practices.
- Identify opportunities to improve infrastructure reliability, scalability, security, performance, and cost efficiency.
- Troubleshoot complex AWS, networking, container, deployment, and infrastructure issues in production environments.
- Implement and maintain appropriate security, access control, backup, monitoring, and disaster recovery practices.
- Maintain clear and up-to-date technical documentation for infrastructure, deployment processes,
and operational procedures.
- Collaborate closely with the CTO and development teams to plan and implement infrastructure changes.
- Provide technical guidance and support to team members on AWS, Terraform, DevOps practices, and deployment processes.
Required Qualifications
- 3–5 years of skilled experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, or a related infrastructure role.
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS and production cloud environments.
- Strong working knowledge of Terraform, including the ability to design, write, review, and maintain reusable Terraform modules.
- Strong understanding of core AWS services, particularly RDS, ECS, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, ECR, Secrets Manager, and load balancing.
- Strong understanding of AWS networking fundamentals, including subnets, security groups, routing, NAT gateways, and load balancers.
- Hands-on experience with ECS Fargate and containerized workloads.
- Strong knowledge of Docker and container deployment practices.
- Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong command-line/Linux skills.
- Comfortable with Git and version control workflows.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of infrastructure, and make well-considered technical decisions.
- Strong attention to detail and a focus on maintaining reliable and secure production infrastructure.
Nice to Have
- Experience managing AWS Organizations and multi-account AWS environments.
- Experience working across Dev, QA, UAT, Production, Sandbox, and DevOps AWS accounts.
- Experience with AWS Secrets Manager, CloudWatch, ECR, IAM, and automated secret rotation.
- Experience with Python or Bash scripting for automation.
- Experience with infrastructure security and AWS cost optimization.
- Experience with monitoring, alerting, logging, and incident response.
- AWS certification such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate/Professional or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional.
- Experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to junior DevOps engineers.
