Job Summary
The Should-Cost Engineer is responsible for developing detailed cost models to estimate the “should cost” of products, components, or services. This role supports supplier negotiations by providing data-driven insights into cost structures, identifying savings opportunities, and ensuring cost competitiveness
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain should-cost models for components, assemblies, and products
- Analyze materials, manufacturing processes, labor, overhead, and supply chain costs
- Support supplier negotiations by providing fact-based cost breakdowns
- Collaborate with engineering teams to evaluate design-to-cost opportunities
- Conduct benchmarking and cost analysis across suppliers and regions
- Identify cost reduction opportunities and drive value engineering initiatives
- Review supplier quotations and validate pricing against internal cost models
- Monitor market trends (raw materials, labor rates, etc.) impacting cost structures
- Prepare detailed cost reports and present findings to stakeholders
Skill Requirements
- Experience in industries such as automotive, aerospace, or industrial manufacturing
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes preferably in Electronics products
- Experience with cost modeling tools and advanced Excel skills
- Analytical mindset with solid attention to detail
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Knowledge of Excel based Should Cost / should-costing software
- Communication & presentation skills
Other Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
- 3–7+ years of experience in cost engineering, manufacturing, or procurement
- Shop Floor Knowledge
