Mechanical, Production, Manufacturing, Metallurgy/Materials, Mechatronics or related engineering disciplinesPOSITIONTechnymon is looking for an engineer to work on thedevelopment, application and industrialisation of plain and composite bearing products .The engineer will work across the complete engineering cycle:Customer Application Bearing Design Materials Tribology Manufacturing Process Tooling Testing Failure Analysis Product ImprovementThis is a hands-on engineering position involving thedesign office, laboratory and manufacturing plant .The objective is to develop engineers who can eventually become specialists inbearing technology, tribology and manufacturing .KEY RESPONSIBILITIES1. Bearing Application EngineeringAnalyse customer applications and determine suitable bearing designs and materials based on:Load and load typeSpeed and oscillation frequencyPV conditionsTemperatureLubricationShaft material, hardness and surface finishMisalignmentEnvironmental conditionsRequired service lifePrepare bearing selection calculations and technical recommendations.2. Bearing & Product DesignAssist in the design and development of:Plain bearingsFibre-wound composite bearingsPTFE-lined bearingsMetal-polymer composite bearingsBushes, thrust washers and specialised sliding componentsWork with:Bearing geometryWall thicknessClearancesTolerancesPress fitsLiner thicknessMaterial combinationsCounterface requirementsGD&TCAD; drawingsSupport prototype development and design validation.3. Tribology & MaterialsDevelop practical knowledge offriction, wear and lubrication .Evaluate the interaction between:Bearing material + counterface + load + speed + temperature + setting + lubricationWork with materials including:PTFE and filled PTFEPTFE fabrics and linersFibre-reinforced compositesBronzeSteelCopper alloysPolymer compositesSurface treatments and coatingsAssist in developing new material combinations and bearing constructions.4. Manufacturing Process DevelopmentWork directly with the manufacturing team to develop and improve processes for bearing production.Depending on the product,



this may include:Strip preparationStamping and formingRollingSinteringBronze powder depositionMetal platingPolymer/liner applicationWindingCalenderingPressingMachiningGrindingChamferingTumbling/cleaningSurface treatmentInspection and finishingUnderstand the relationship betweenprocess parameters and final bearing performance .Investigate process variation and develop methods to improve:Dimensional consistencyBond strengthSurface qualityPorosityLiner adhesionMaterial distributionProductivityScrapProcess capability5. Tooling & Manufacturing EngineeringAssist in the development and optimisation oftools, dies, fixtures and production equipmentused to manufacture bearings.Responsibilities may include:Tool and die designForming toolsStamping toolsChamfering toolsWinding fixturesPress toolsInspection fixturesJigs and gaugesTool-life evaluationTool optimisationUnderstand machining operations such as:TurningMillingGrindingDrillingFormingCNC machiningWork with the tool room and production teams to resolve tooling and process problems.6. Testing & ValidationPlan and conduct laboratory and production tests for bearing materials and finished components.Tests may include:FrictionWearPV performanceLoad capacityTemperatureOscillating motionRotational motionDry operationLubricated operationEnvironmental testingDimensional and material testingAnalyse test results and translate them into product and process improvements.7. Failure AnalysisInvestigate failures from:Laboratory testingProductionCustomer applicationsDetermine the root cause of problems such as:Excessive wearSeizureDelaminationLiner failureCrackingFatigueDeformationCorrosionExcessive frictionCounterface damageDimensional failureUse engineering analysis, microscopy, measurements, testing and process investigation to establish root cause.8. Continuous ImprovementWork with Production, Quality and Tool Room teams to improve manufacturing performance.Identify and reduce:ScrapRejectionReworkCycle timeTool wearProcess variationMaterial wastageUse structured problem-solving methods such as:5 WhyFishbone analysisDOESPCProcess capability analysisFMEACANDIDATE PROFILEWe are looking for an engineer withstrong fundamentals and high mechanical curiosity ,
