Job Description PCB Layout Engineer
Position: PCB Layout Engineer High-Speed Design
Experience: 4–5 Years
Location: Bangalore, India
Engagement: 3-Months Contract
Joining: Immediate / Short Notice Preferred
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced PCB Layout Engineer with 4–5 years of hands-on
experience in high-speed PCB layout and design. The candidate will be responsible for
translating schematics and design requirements into robust, manufacturable PCB layouts
while working closely with hardware, SI/PI, mechanical, and manufacturing teams.
The ideal candidate should have practical experience with standard high-speed interfaces,
strong understanding of PCB design principles, and exposure to DFM/DFA and SI/PI
considerations. Good communication and collaboration skills are essential, as the role will
involve interaction with cross-functional engineering teams and customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement high-speed PCB layouts based on schematics, architecture,
and design constraints.
- Perform component placement, routing, stack-up implementation, and PCB design
optimization.
- Work with standard high-speed interfaces such as:
- DDR/LPDDR
- PCIe
- USB 3.x
- Ethernet
- HDMI/DisplayPort
- Other high-speed serial interfaces
- Implement appropriate differential pair routing, impedance-controlled traces,
length matching, and topology requirements.
- Understand and implement PCB stack-up requirements for high-speed designs.
- Work closely with hardware engineers to resolve layout-related design issues and
constraints.
- Have a working understanding of Signal Integrity (SI)
and Power Integrity (PI)
concepts and their impact on PCB layout.
- Apply DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and DFA (Design for Assembly)
principles during PCB design.
- Ensure PCB designs are optimized for manufacturing, assembly, testing, and
reliability.
- Work with PCB fabrication and assembly teams to address manufacturing constraints
and design issues.
- Review PCB designs against design rules, manufacturing guidelines, and customer
requirements.
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical inputs related to PCB layout and
manufacturability.
- Support PCB bring-up/debug activities and resolve layout-related issues, where
required.
- Maintain appropriate PCB design documentation and design data.
Required Technical Skills
- 4–5 years of hands-on experience in PCB layout/design.
- Strong experience in high-speed PCB layout.
- Experience with one or more qualified PCB design tools such as:
- Altium Designer
- Cadence Allegro
Good understanding of:
- High-speed routing techniques
- Differential pairs
- Impedance-controlled routing
- Length/timing matching
- PCB stack-up
- Grounding and return paths
- Power distribution
- Crosstalk and noise considerations
- Practical experience with standard high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, DDR, USB,
Ethernet, MIPI, HDMI/DisplayPort, etc.
- Working knowledge of DFM/DFA principles.
- Basic understanding of SI/PI concepts and analysis requirements.
- Ability to interpret schematics, datasheets, layout guidelines, and component
placement requirements.
- Familiarity with PCB fabrication and assembly processes.
- Understanding of IPC standards and PCB design best practices will be an advantage.
Soft Skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with hardware, mechanical, firmware, SI/PI, and
manufacturing teams.
- Ability to understand technical requirements and translate them into practical layout
solutions.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet project timelines.
- Comfortable working in a customer-facing and collaborative engineering
environment.
- Good attention to detail and ownership of assigned deliverables.
Qualification
- 4–5 years of relevant experience in PCB layout and high-speed design.
Preferred
- Experience working on complex multi-layer PCBs.
- Experience with high-speed computing, networking, automotive, medical, industrial,
or consumer electronics products.
- Exposure to SI/PI simulation tools and interpretation of SI/PI reports.
- Experience working with PCB fabrication houses and EMS/PCBA manufacturers.
- Knowledge of IPC-2221, IPC-6012, IPC-A-600, IPC-A-610 and related standards.
- Experience in customer-facing engineering projects.
