Annexure 1: Job Description
Duties & responsibilities of Phlebotomist
The phlebotomist will:

1. Be directly responsible to Technical Supervisor (TS) for work at blood bank & to Medical Officer Blood Donation Camp (MOBDC) for work at Blood Donation Camps
2. Assist in blood donor screening, bleeding and post donation care. Ensure proper collection of blood as per SOP.
3. Those phlebotomists trained for apheresis, carryout platelet collection by apheresis as per SOP. Maintain necessary documentation.
4. Carry out blood sample collection as per SOP
5. Pre donation counseling & donor selection
6. Post Donation care & reaction management
7. Record & report any malfunctioning equipment immediately to Quality Control Officer (QCO)/MOBDC.
8. Ensure cleanliness and tidiness of work area at all times.
9. Perform any other duties assigned by competent authority from time to time.

Duties & responsibilities of Technician, TTI laboratory
Technician, TTI laboratory will:

1. Be directly responsible to TS
2. Have the overall responsibility of TTI laboratory.
3. Carry out the mandatory screening tests of all donor blood samples for transmissible diseases like HIV 1 & 2, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Syphilis and Malaria Parasite including follow up of reactive units.
4. Ensure that proper Quarantine storage of untested and Reactive units
5. Remove all TTI reactive blood units from quarantine area & hand over to concerned staff pending disposal as bio hazard waste as per SOP.
6. Keep the workstation clean and tidy before, during & after work. Report and clean all spillage of blood and other hazardous materials and chemical.
7. Maintain repository of required positive test samples. Send NAT samples for Repeat and discriminatory runs.
8. Ensure timely receipt of NAT reports and upload results in Hemotrace.
9. Follow-up NAT results and report delay/discrepancy to TS/TM (Technical Manager)
10. Record & report any malfunctioning equipment in the TTI laboratory to the QCO.
11. Record the usage of testing kits & Check Stock of consumables. Report to QCO every month.
12. Performing QC & recording LJ charts
13. Maintain proper documentation for the above.

Carry out other duties and jobs assigned from time to times

Duties & responsibilities of Technician, blood component separation, processing & storage
Technician - blood component separation, processing & storage will:

1. Be directly responsible to Technical Supervisor
2. Receive information from TS regarding components to be prepared.
3. Execute Performance check of Blood bag Centrifuge.
4. Record temperature of Whole Blood received from BDC. Inform TS in case of delayed receipt of blood units.
5. Separate blood components from whole blood according to above information as per SOP.
6. Record & report any malfunctioning equipment immediately to QCO Quality Control Officer /TS.
7. Keep the workstation clean and tidy before, during & after work.
8. Report and clean all spillage of blood and other hazardous materials and chemical as per SOP.
9. Inform in writing any unauthorized absence immediately to TS.

Duties & responsibilities of Red Cell Serology technician
The red cell serology technician will:

1. Be directly responsible to TS.
2. Perform cell and serum grouping of all donated blood units and of patient samples as per SOP.
3. Perform Pre Transfusion testing & cross matching of patient and donor samples as per SOP & WI.
4. Report any malfunctioning equipment immediately to TS/QCO.
5. Monitor temperature in all the blood storage devices. In case of any alarm, check the temperature & take necessary action as per WI.
6. Keep the workstation clean and tidy before, during & after work.
7. Report and clean all spillage of blood and other hazardous materials and chemical.
8. Inform in writing any unauthorized absence immediately to TS and maintain records, including action taken.
9. Carry out the duties of the receptionist in his/her absence.

Perform any other duties assigned by competent authority from time to time.

Additional duties of morning shift technician

1. Perform daily QC of all antisera, reagent red cells, normal saline, LISS, copper sulphate and distilled water as per SOP & WI.
2. Perform alarm check of equipment every Monday.
3. Check actual temperature in blood component storage equipment and equipment in Red Cell Serology laboratory with calibrated thermometer & tally with display as well as central temperature monitoring system.
4. Maintain record of daily QC sheets.
5. Preparation of reagent red cell suspension for blood grouping.
6. Ensure that blood units for bulk issue to hospital blood banks are ready on time.
7. Identify expired units from Hemotrace & Master Record.
8. Remove expired units and Less Collection (LC) units from blood storage & handover for waste disposal
9. Perform the duties of the receptionist in his/her absence.
10. Perform any other duties assigned by competent authority from time to time.

Additional duties of Technician i/c of afternoon shift

1. Supervise the working of technicians, trainees & lab assistants under him/her and ensure that proper processes, techniques and documentation in red cell serology laboratory are carried out.
2. Ensure completion of jobs along with documentation at the end of shift.
3. Ensure proper cleanliness and safe setting in work area.
4. Inform in writing any unauthorized absence immediately to TS.
5. Perform the duties of the receptionist in his/her absence.
6. Perform any other duties assigned by competent authority from time to time.

Additional duties of Technician i/c of night shift

1. Perform blood grouping for all donor samples.
2. Enter all details of blood collected in Master Record
3. Ensure completion of jobs along with documentation at the end of shift.
4. Remove patient and donor samples 7 days after issue of blood from storage area and dispose as biological waste.
5. Check & record temperatures of equipment not connected to central temperature monitoring system.
6. Perform the duties of the receptionist in his/her absence.
