Role Summary

The ALM Functional Lead will own functional analysis and stakeholder alignment for migration from a legacy RV&S; / ELM-style environment to Siemens Polarion ALM. The role leads workshops, documents current-state processes, defines target-state workflows and traceability models, prioritizes fit-gap decisions, supports migration scope definition, and ensures that the configured Polarion solution meets agreed engineering, quality, and governance needs.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead stakeholder workshops to understand current RV&S; / ELM-style usage across requirements, change, defect, test, release, reporting, permissions, and traceability processes.

- Document current-state process flows, artifact types, field usage, workflows, role/permission models, reporting needs, integrations, pain points, and business rules.

- Define target-state Polarion functional design including work item taxonomy, LiveDocs usage, workflows, statuses, link roles, approvals, baselines, dashboards, and governance rules.

- Own process fit-gap analysis, rationalize legacy customizations, identify non-ALM or out-of-scope capabilities, and drive decisions on standardization versus customization.

- Partner with technical developers and architects to translate functional requirements into Polarion configuration specifications and acceptance criteria.

- Work with migration analysts to define source-to-target mapping principles, data ownership, migration scope, validation rules, and handling of retired, duplicate, or low-quality data.

- Establish traceability expectations across requirements, tasks, defects, test cases, test results, releases, and external artifacts where applicable.

- Coordinate UAT planning, user scenarios, validation checklists, defect prioritization, business sign-off, and readiness criteria for migration waves or releases.

- Support change management by preparing process guidance, role-based training inputs, quick reference material, and adoption feedback loops.

- Maintain decision logs, open questions, risks, assumptions, dependencies, and functional sign-off evidence.

Required Qualifications

- Strong functional experience with enterprise ALM processes, including requirements management, change/defect management, test management, release governance, and traceability.

- Experience leading ALM transformation, tool migration, process harmonization, or enterprise engineering process improvement initiatives.

- Working knowledge of Siemens Polarion ALM capabilities and how they support workflows, LiveDocs, work items, dashboards, permissions, and traceability.

- Working knowledge of IBM DOORS / DOORS Next, PTC Windchill RV&S;, or comparable legacy ALM platforms.

- Ability to run workshops, elicit requirements, analyze fit-gap, facilitate decisions, and produce clear functional design documentation.

- Experience supporting UAT, test scenario definition, defect triage, and functional acceptance for ALM implementations or migrations.

- Bachelors degree in engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analysis, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with regulated engineering practices, audit readiness, ASPICE, ISO 26262, DO-178C, IEC standards, medical device quality systems, or comparable compliance frameworks.

- Knowledge of ReqIF, OSLC, PLM-ALM integrations, CI/CD integration concepts, test automation linkage, and model-based engineering toolchains.

- Experience defining enterprise ALM governance standards, reusable templates, usage guardrails, metrics, dashboards, and role-based training paths.

- Experience working with distributed delivery teams, offshore development teams, vendors, and multi-stakeholder governance forums.

- Business analysis, product ownership, Agile, SAFe, Scrum, or requirements engineering certification is desirable.

Technical Skills

- ALM process modeling: requirements-to-test lifecycle, traceability model, approvals, baselines, reuse/branching concepts, variants, release gates, and evidence packs.

- Polarion functional design: work item taxonomy, LiveDocs structure, workflow states, link roles, permissions, dashboards, reports, and template rationalization.

- Legacy-source understanding:

RV&S;/EWM work items, planning, change management, source/build relationships, DOORS/DOORS Next requirements structures, and custom fields.

- Analysis artifacts: fit-gap matrix, process maps, use cases, acceptance criteria, UAT scenarios, RACI/RASCI, decision logs, and migration scope definitions.

- Delivery tools: Jira/Azure DevOps/Polarion tracking, Microsoft Excel/PowerPoint/Visio, dashboard/reporting tools, and collaboration platforms.

Soft Skills / Behavioral Expectations

- Facilitates alignment across business, engineering, quality, IT, vendor, and architecture stakeholders.

- Communicates complex process and data-model topics in practical, decision-oriented language.

- Drives closure on fit-gap decisions while balancing standardization, user adoption, and migration feasibility.

- Escalates risks and dependencies early and maintains a transparent record of decisions and assumptions.

- Coaches teams on target-state process usage and supports adoption without over-customizing the tool.

Key Deliverables

- Current-state process and capability assessment for legacy ALM usage.

- Target-state Polarion functional design including workflows, work item model, LiveDocs, permissions, dashboards, and traceability model.

- Fit-gap analysis, customization rationale, and decision log for standardization versus extensions.

- Source-to-target mapping principles and functional validation rules in partnership with migration analysts.

- UAT plan, user scenarios, sign-off checklist, training inputs, and functional readiness report.

Reports / Works With

- Program Manager, ALM Solution Architect, vendor delivery lead, and business/process owners

Primary Migration Focus

- Functional discovery, process fit-gap, target ALM operating model, traceability governance, stakeholder workshops, UAT readiness, and adoption support

Experience Level

- 8-14+ years total experience; senior candidates typically 10+ years with enterprise ALM transformation leadership
